I was shocked to hear that John Singleton is gone. I was so pleased that he asked me to sign for him to get into the Directors Guild. I was honored to do so.

I am profoundly sorry for any pain or misunderstanding I caused by not choosing my words more carefully about Michael Jackson and his victims, because the words as printed do not reflect my true feelings. I didn’t mean to dismiss the trauma these boys experienced in any way. Like all survivors of sexual assault, they will have to carry this for the rest of their lives. I feel deep remorse and I hope that James and Wade know that I … Read more »

I want to thank Norman Lear and Dr. Michael Oppenheimer for their kind words.

And many thanks to UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability for this wonderful award. I am humbled and honored.

After Chernobyl in 1986, when I read about the clouds of radiation moving across the world and contaminating the air, the food and the water, I was frightened to death…and horrified by the fire in the reactor that couldn’t be put out for 10 days. A Read more »

The Artist as Citizen

For those who are encouraged and inspired by my art, you make what I do worthwhile – – thank you, dearly. For those who tell me to “keep my mouth shut,” here is my response. It’s as true today as it was nearly 25 years ago when I spoke these words:

President Kennedy was the first to suggest the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts. Well aware that art can be controversial, he concluded, “[the artist] must often

By Barbra Streisand.

Women are now proving they are powerful when they stick together and are unafraid to speak truth to power… unafraid to stand arm in arm with EVERY American and find a way forward together. Many of us were at the history-making march last year when Donald Trump was inaugurated, and we were hoping against hope that some good would come out of this Administration. Unfortunately, day-by-day, Trump has provided us – – both by his actions and … Read more »

Here’s a terrible fact—

There has not been a single woman who has won the Golden Globe for Best Director since I was fortunate enough to win it for Yentl in 1984…that’s 34 years ago!    Not right!

More women should be directing!

In my humble opinion, I was very disappointed that director Dee Rees and her powerful film Mudbound wasn’t even nominated.

I also would have liked to see director Patty Jenkins and her exciting film Wonder Woman be recognized

“The many fans of Barbra Streisand may have to start passing the hat. On June 23, I reported that the diva’s self-managed stock portfolio had sunk by 15 percent since she was written up as an investment maven by Fortune magazine. Well, things have gotten worse. Barbra’s investments are now down 32.5 percent since our benchmark date of April 30. In the same period, the Dow Jones was off only 1.4. percent and the Nasdaq was up 1.8 percent.”

TRUTH

The following fax was sent to E! Entertainment:

“Your recent story listing Barbra Streisand among artists who have embraced the studies of the Kabbalah is about four years out of date and, as Mark Twain once characterized reports of his death, ‘greatly exaggerated.’ Barbra satisfied her curiosity by attending a study class in the religious philosophy on one occasion. Barbra is concerned about being put forward as a devotee or expert because that requires years of dedicated study, not … Read more »

“Barbra Streisand – the ultimate perfectionist – isn’t perfect after all…her stock picks are proving to be relative lemons. Streisand is featured in the current issue of Fortune magazine, holding forth about making millions for herself and friends like Donna Karan through astute investments in the stock market… At the close of trading on Monday, Streisand’s stocks were down by an average of 15 percent. In the same period, the S&P was up 1 percent and the Dow was up … Read more »

A tabloid story which asserts without naming any source that Barbra Streisand and James Brolin are planning to add to their family by hiring a surrogate mother to carry a baby for them. In classic tabloid style, the story is so far from having any basis in truth that it smacks of something dreamed up out of whole cloth in the hopes that it could attract attention. The Tabloid Tip-off that this is the case is the fact that the … Read more »

“It’s okay to be as fiercely loyal to Bill Clinton as Barbra Streisand is. It’s okay for a celebrity to appear at stump speeches. It’s even okay for a celebrity to use her star power to help a candidate raise money. But when Streisand went online the day before the elections and gave the Democrats what amounted to a free hour-long advertisement, she went too far. The well-publicized online chat drew 41,000 hits from Streisand’s hoards of fans, who were … Read more »

LYRICS

By Desmond Child.

Lady Liberty
Lift your lamp of hope a little higher
Burn that flame of freedom
Just a little brighter please
For all the world to see
And still believe

Oh, Lady Liberty
Show us how to stand and feel a little prouder
As the anthem plays let’s sing
And raise our voices even louder
Since the real danger lies in the sound of silence

Lady Liberty
I see you rise above the crashing waves
Bearing witness
