As I sat, mesmerized with tears in my eyes, watching you sing live on Oprah's show today, I wondered why I always cry when I see you sing. I spent a lot of time thinking about it, and thought I knew, but, the New York Times article put it in words: She "sings as if she is speaking to you." There are so VERY few performers who offer that quality. I was fortunate to see Sammy Davis, Jr once.
