What's your favorite "all time Barbra" song?

If you had to pick only one song sung by Barbra as your favorite (and I know how incredibly difficult it would be), what song would that be?
Mine would have to be from her Barbra Joan Streisand album: Since I Fell For You.

Can not say my favorite song but the one that means most to me is ''No Matter What Happens'' from Yentil.
Just listern to the words, they are wonderful.
My coming out song so means so much.
Please Barbra sing it more..........

So hard to choose, but because of its place in my life, I would have to say "Love Comes from the Most Unexpected Places" from Streisand Superman. I was deeply in love when that recording (then called an album!) came out and that song very accurately describes the rawness of a relationship, the quiet desparation some experience when they are waiting for the right person to come along. Her voice on that song is simply tremendous. It starts out very quiet and reachs an amazing, surprisingly bluesy crescendo. Most importantly, every single word of the beautiful lyrics is delivered in an actorly way.

Since I fell for you ....Oh ... my...god! After hearing barbra sing that song, well, I have to give myself a few minutes to change back from a liquid to a solid! ....cottontop

Thats a really hard question to answer. So I looked over a few of her albums and tried to think of one...and after careful consideration I would have to say the song that stands out most for me, no matter the mood or time of day or whatever,
would be the song at the end of the Prince of Tides soundtrack;

"Places that Belong to You"

The soundtrack pulls you in and and all the time your yearning to hear her voice to the medley, then finally at the end...there she is!

What an impossible question to answer..here's my best shot:

A Sleepin' Bee from her first album. Every time I hear the first few notes of that song, as arranged by Peter Matz, time stops for me.

I would say "As if we never said goodbye" including the Intro from The Concert 1994.

A masterpiece and the perfect choice for the opening of that show, given Barbra's fear of returning to the stage at that time.

It´s a very hard decission, but...

"No matter what happens". A very personal choice maybe, but in 1983 I felt really identified with the song and its lyrics. Personal decissions, turning points. Still an obvious favourite after 26 years. "Prisoner" and "The woman in the moon" are the very honoured runner up options.

The ones I find myself listening to most often are Down With Love and My Man. What emotion she conveys into My Man! Her voice was at its absolute best! Does anyone else get goosebumps when they listen to this song?

"Make Believe" from The Third Album

Barbra Streisand is so exceptional, it really is hard to say which song is the best...

One song influenced me very much, it is A PIECE OF SKY!

But she is so unique, wonderful, everything she sings is wonderful. Her way to sing her songs let me forget the the little problems and worries or whatever. Her voice is magic.

Hope she comes to Europe once again on tour...

that question is a hard decision

I have to go back to the beginning, when the world first fell in love with Barbra, and I was so moved by "People." "On A Clear Day" still gives me goosebumps though!

What a tough choice! If I had to chose one song, it would be "The Way We Were."

That's a tough one - but if I had to pick one - JUST one - it would be "A Piece of Sky" from Yentl. Gives me goose bumps every time - it's kind of become my theme song for life - lol.

With no hesitation... " The Music That Makes Me Dance " from the Broadway production of Funny Girl LP ( 1964 )l...for the movie it was replaced with My Man...she chose to record it again for " A Love Like Ours" ( 1999 )

It obviously is a favorite for her too. On the CD jacket her note reads as follows:

" This song has a very special meaning for me. It was written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill for Funny Girl ( in fact the ending of this version echoes the melody of the show's most popular song "People" ) The lyrics resonate for me now more than ever. You might say that in 1963 I sang it in character...but today I can sing it for real...

On her new album " Here's To Life"

Evergreen
Happy Days Are Here Again
I'm The Greatest Star
Don't Rain On My Parade

I have almost all of her CD's so to choose just one song from all of the possibilities is just impossible! I'll just say that I love all of her songs. I have alot of favorites and I could never just choose just one! She has a beautiful voice and I could listen to her all day long! Smiling

Wow! One day I will do a post like COLORMEMICHAEL did above. For a long time, my favorite song was "Lullaby for Myself" from Streisand Superman. I still love to listen to it now and then. Of course, I have so many favorites.Right now, I'm listening to some of her discs in the car. Whan I find another "favorite" or quite a few like Michael did, I will enjoy posting those.

Much more later!

Love to all,
Chip

I have ALL her albums and some discontinued 45's never released to the public, so with so much to select from..usually, I begin my private evening with Barbra by playing, "Starting Here, Starting Now" which she sang on the staircase in her second TV special and it must have meant something to her as well as she chose to open her last concert tour with it. After the first chorus and the orchestra begins playing a thrombatic scale...each note deliberate and crescendoing until it reaches its top destination and Barbra, in her BEST vocal tone sings...full-blast..."NOW, take my hand for the greatest journey heaven will allow! Starting here! Starting Love! Starting Now". That ONE phrase would raise goosebumps in a graveyard..Melody, lyrics, orchestra, and voice...ALL PERFECT!!!

"No matter what happens" the song that changed my life...Smiling
