How does someone get a message to Barbra
Over thirty years ago I decided I wanted to meet Ms. Streisand, but decided that stalking was not the answer. I have since seen what happens when one attempts. I thought up a storyline that I thought would make a great movie and Ms. Streisand would feel compelled to play the lead role. In that way I assumed she would contact me. After trying to contact anyone that would listen, I decided to write the story as a novel. Unfortunately, she would be a little too old to play the part of Rachel, but I would love to send her the finished product. It is entitled When I Dream by Michael R. Yogish. The first chapter is available to read at Whiskeycreekpress.com.
Is there an address where a book could be sent to Ms. Streisand or her company. At this point in my life, I would simply like to think she had a copy.

If you wish to get in touch in touch with an icon and legend of American entertainment there are some do's and don'ts. First, perhaps it is best that you not refer to her as "too old" to do anything. The legend in this instance has shown pretty clearly that she is not too old to bowl the world over yet again, in a stylish, funny, poignant and engaging way.
Secondly, perhaps for all that she has given us we need to make an extra special effort to leave Barbra, the person, alone, while we indulge in all the wonders that Barbra, the performer has given us. Anytime I wish to get in contact with Barbra Streisand very quickly I throw on my IPod and press "Play". And there she is again.
Thirdly, think less about getting something to her other than your thanks for the years of memories and congratulations on an fascinating musical departure in her new recording. Do it in a nice safe place like this, where she can check in (just like anyone else) and see what a very small number of her legions of fans is saying.
Lastly, try not to have an urgency about getting a message to such a legend. If you have a worthy project for her, try sending it through an agent. If you don't have a worthy project for anybody, try living within your gifts. Why the urgency?
When someone so magical exists in the world with us, it is natural to feel that if we could but contact them, some of that magic would rub off. There are magical people that are not so famous all around you. Seek them out and get inspired. There are people who go and build houses for the homeless in Tijuana on weekends. There is a doctor working this weekend on a cure for cancer (perhaps funded by a very special foundation). An underpaid counsel for children of abuse will go to work tomorrow, giving the job her full dedication as always. Let's get in touch with some of those people.
In the meantime, Barbra has made her self delightfully available on television and other media to draw attention to the new recording. I have enjoyed every minute of it. Her new album was recorded in a way that makes it sound like she is in my living room. I think I will go out and buy a really good stereo system. The ear buds aren't going to cut it on this one.
I do have one last suggestion. She lives in Malibu. Put 50 dollars in a bottle and drop it in the ocean. With any luck, the bottle will find its way to a poor family in Indonesia (Barbra doesn't need it). As soon as you make a stranger's life better, as she has on so many occasions, you will be getting a message to Barbra. It's the same one she has sent to you: Love is the Answer.
Hello Cyberglenn:
I really enjoyed your reply (well written) to the first post about the subject matter; getting in touch with Barbra. I agree with everything you said, and practice much of what you said in my own life.
My "relationship" with her has nothing to do with meeting her, it is all about what she shares and continues to give us in terms of her music, films and performances. For me, that is enough; and I am sincerely grateful.
David.
Well said both of you in your replies to the first question, we all have a dream of meeting our idols but thats what it is, a dream.
I love the lady to bits and drive all my family mad as I play her music and watch her DVDs on my days off, but they have now come to understand that my days of are my time, and what better way of spending it than listening to a wonderful singer like Barbra Streisand,
Leave the lady alone and be content with what she has given us.
Do you think Barbra sometimes reads all these comments on here?
I think so.
Celebs are in the spotlight because they thrive on the love that comes
from the fanbase . . . .after all . . a performer could be sublime, very talented,
a real mench of a person but for some reason (who knows?) just has no fans to speak of. They do a show at a small club and there are open seats all over the place.
When an icon steps on stage, there is this glorious magic that occurs . . the hush . .the lights dim . . .the music begins . . .the tension .mounts . ....................................... the audience lives for it and certainly so, the artist LIVES for it as well.
But to stay on the topic here . . . .admire the brilliance of the bright Star, but for all practical purposes
dismiss the idea of any real one-to-one contact with the Star. They're Stars, they're
etherial, they're see-able but ...this I truly believe....they are not for us to
grasp or contact or talk to. . . .but WHY? you might interject here . . . .well . . .you'd
probably be a little let down . . . . .let down when you discover that they in all their
brilliance and magnitude, first and foremost . .are only people . . . not ordinary people mind you . . . .but ordinary people who are capable of doing EXTRA
ordinary things. They're not like you or I. They're different. They're sometimes strange. Perhaps it is for that reason that we, the fans, look up to the Stars at all.
btw, once you met them and after five minutes. . . there would probably be little to say to them . . . . anyway . . .
I think I would have a lot to say to Barbra, beginning with "Thank you, Gorgeous!". But one thing I have noticed, as you said, is that the persona created by a star may be quite different from the person. I think that is really true in Barbra's case. After years of hearing her say she is shy, it has sunk in that she actually is a little shy! Barbra, the persona, the star, is not shy in the least. The whole message of that persona is "Look at me world, here I am!".
So, I think there is a dichotomy between the person and the persona she has created. I am absolutely certain that I would love the person. I ran across a Youtube video of Barbra in France. She leaves a fancy hotel with a bodyguard (and Sammy, I think!) and the bodyguard gives a photographer a very, very hard time. Amazingly, she gets OUT of the limousine, tells the bodyguard to stand back and invites the photographer to take his picture. The photographer is stunned (and perhaps slightly injured, not sure). But he does get his picture. And Barbra has personally intervened between two bags of testosterone. Amazing. I am quite sure I would love the person and that there is a connection between the person and the persona that she projects. You see it in that video where she stops and altercation through the power of her presence. But still the person is different from the characters she has played (although the spirit of the person comes through in those characters). It would be easy to confuse them, and expect the person to act like the character, or like the singer.
Even though I only live a 100 miles from Barbra, the person, chances are we will never meet. If we did meet, I hope my smile would say "Come in". Until then, I have Barbra, the persona pretty much whenever I want. Today, I enjoyed her company on my patio with my two dalmatians and a very nice glass of wine. I also enjoyed Barbra through the scent of a beautiful rose bush I brought home about five years ago.
It is a very powerfully perfumed lavender-colored rose (I think! I'm a little color blind!) that grows very well in our coastal California climate (I am in Oceanside, California). It's called the Barbra Streisand. As for Barbra, the person, can you imagine people giving her a hard time for being (or being perceived as being) a perfectionist?
When you smell this rose, you will wish there were a few more perfectionists in the world and few people that tell you the curtains can't possibly go all the way to the floor, Ms. Streisand.
I was listening to the concert (the one in 1994 that I missed!) today in my car. I have been having a very hard time lately (relationship breakup), and Barbra was singing a medley of "I'm Still Here (very funny), "Everybody says Don't" and "Parade". Something really amazing happens in that medley. The transition from "Everybody says Don't" to "Don't Rain on My Parade" is amazing. I kept listening to just those 10 seconds over and over. I think it is on Youtube. It flattened me. She springs one of her signatures songs on you in the most unexpected way. It is all the more thrilling for the surprise.
I am just delighted with the new recording as well and yes, I will have to content myself to spend the rest of my life with Barbra, the persona, and to never having even a moment with Barbra the person.
As much as I know I would enjoy meeting the person, having the persona available whenever I need to see her or hear her is a spectacular consolation prize. Thanks, Barbra. Enjoy your roses!
Cyberglen:
You put that all together so beautifully. I'm no youngster and in my life as a musician in New York I had the good fortune to meet some stars in my day.
Once I took my then 10 year old daughter to see INTO THE WOODS and was forced
to wait by the stage door for Ms. Peters to emerge some one hour after the curtain
came down. My daughter was plotzing from the chance to chat with Bernadette.
It was charming and quite memorable. I, on the other hand, was so stunned that
such a big Broadway Icon like Bernadette Peters would speak to a young fan the way she did. This also happened with Glenn Close when Barnum was in town. And Tommy Tune and Twiggy when they sang Gershwin tunes. But the biggie
was in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center when Sweeney Todd made its home there for a while . . . .-Both George Hearn AND Angela Lansbury had their cars wait for them while they took the time to speak to and delight a starry-eyed 10 year old
in the Lobby of that magnificent Hall. Charming.
Myself, I once , in Atlantic City at the Bally's Grand in 1989 actually(scout's honor)
shook hands with and chatted with Frank Sinatra for under a minute. We didn't speak music or show business . . but what I said to him must have resonated with him somewhat . . .for.... a few minutes later I was signaled by his staff/bodygards and was waved into the outdoor arena and enjoyed Sinatra for free. Outdoors, naturally, he opened that evening with...A SUMMER WIND. It was creepy. He kept staring at me from time to time at certain lyrics . . . .What did I say to him? . . .(can't repeat it here)....
The oddest celeb encounter was at Mohegan Sun in Ct. I was coming down the escalator and standing right next to me was . . . (for real) none other than Michael Jordan . . he has three restaurants there and always stops by there to play some rounds of golf with various big shots there . . . He had this look on his face like he dropped like $75,000 at the tables . .and he probably went upstairs to his Suite to get more $100's . . . I did this incredible double take . .he must have seen me in his peripheral vision . .turned his head to me and just smiled . . when the escalator finished moving the both of us he turned left toward the Casino and I went right toward the shops . . . now THAT was crazy !!. At Mohegan Sun at an MDA fundraiser
I chatted with Richard Gere ( and I didn't even know who the hell I was talking to I was so tanked)
As of today, Oct. 5th...I think I came across enough big shots to last me two lifetimes.
I couldn't handle meeting Ms. Streisand. . . that would be IT for me.You'd have to call I.J. Morris
and tell them I want just a plain pine box with two satin pillows.
I enjoyed reading the thoughtful comments on this thread. That's a great idea, Cyberglen, to purchase a Barbra Streisand rose bush. I'll have to start looking for one here locally, or else order it online.
My personal hope is that I never meet her because I have a terrible habit of sticking my foot in my mouth whenever I meet somebody famous that I really admire. If I met Barbra Streisand I'd probably swallow my tongue.
Oh, wow, Franklin! You have celebrity mojo. I have never met anyone really famous ever. Oh, wait....is Goldie Hawn still famous? She came up to a van I was in in the French Quarter in New Orleans. She had been out all night and didn't know how to find her way back to Francis Ford Coppola's house in the Quarter. All she knew was that the street had a long name. We puzzled it out and drove her over the street, and drove down the street until we got to his house. She acted exactly like Goldie Hawn, the whole time! She was delightful. Her daughter --who apparently is more famous thatn she is-- was filming a movie near there. Anyway, I did handle meeting Goldie pretty well, come to think of it. I think it made it easier that she had a problem and there was something I could help her with. Otherwise, I am pretty sure I would have been tongue-tied.
Your Sinatra story is very impressive. He is a great singer. Another immortal.. Streisand and Sinatra are certainly in the same league, but spiritually two very different people.
And Frank never, to my knowledge, had a rose named after him.
I do believe though that Frank's mother's name was Rose . . . or Molly . .
(not sure).... but I sat next to her in the little club Bally's Grand used to have
on the 2nd floor . . .during that same Sinatra engagement when Frankie Randall
did his little side show there. I was a drummer.when I did gigs in NYC...and merely seeing Frank's drummer , at THAT time, Irv Cotler left me tongue tied . . to say the least. Irv from Encino,Ca . . . .that Irv... If I ever had met Alvin Stoller (Frank's 50's and 60's drummer - - I would have needed EMS for sure . . .His framed signed photo
adorns my GREATS wall in my living room.
CyberGlen:
Frank Sinatra was very spiritual , by the way . . .
Read Will Freidwald's
masterfully written book on Mr. Sinatra.....The Art Of The Song...(out of print)
Amazon has it in Paperback . . . . $21.95
Sinatra has hospitals named after him.
Sinatra has streets named after him..............
Not much, really.when you think about it....but a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose . .which in time
disappears . . . . .
Pvt. Benjamin is not a bad celeb encounter....either.
ps. what was the long name she couldn't remember . . .Frenchman? Toulouse?
it's killing me . . . if necc. say it in Pig Latin . . . please . . . .
Just a thought here. Does Barbra come out the stage door at concerts and mingle for several minutes with the star-struck? or does she leave through an undisclosed underground location? Just curious . . . . . .
I would say then in conclusion that it might not be a great idea to seek out Babs.
The Lp's, the CD's,Cassettes. The DVD's, the Blu-rays . . . are ALL we're ever to get . . unless...
unless . . . you're the lady who does her nails . . or you're the guy who tidys up her landscaping . . . . . .ya know whad I mean???
F
I'm from Russia to me 22 years and I love Barbra. She is the most amazing singer, actress and I love it! It is a great woman! Woman and a voice number 1 in the twentieth century!

so... r u telling me ,that, i'll never meet her in person? ..ever? even i think "nothing's impossible" , your words Cyberglen , r making me loose my hopes!.
i just 'll be satisfied if i can see her in the street or something. that really would mean Heaven to me.. and for all of us for sure... but c'mon i'm not trying to be unreal but also one of her messages are that we should stay strog to our dreams, because if you really want something , u see it, u visualize, u take action and then you wear it out! ... anyway i don't believe she's interested in making her fans happy and fulfill their dreams because that's why she makes her magic, to us to enjoy it... but that magic make us wish more of her... we should have enough with all the work she does everyday, .. i'm not feel silly saying this, i'm just a dreamer, and all i know is that this girl 'll never NEVER loose their hopes..and Barbra if you ever read this.. all this people who is talking about you-with you-to you is because u left a mark in our lives.. powerful woman... more than a voice, than a charm, than a star.. a SUPER human being for sure.... <3 xoxo from Camp, Mexico.
Such an interesting thread! I have been so wishing I could meet Ms Streisand some day in my life. To be in the same space for just a little period of time. That was one of the many reason I tried so hard to win the "Cutest Pet Contest" (and came so close). But, I also realize that I fear I would be a babbling idiot, if I did have that moment in time. And I don't think you really have much respect for "babbling idiots", as one should understand. So I, too, will continue to enjoy the opportunity to watch the DVD's, remain overwhelmed by the quality of voice and song, and hope that you, Ms Streisand, have the chance to be as happy in your life as you have made so many of your fans with your gifts and talent.
BTW, I just got my new sound system to watch the Village Vanguard performance (and all of the other DVD/CD's). Can't wait to listen. It's as close to being there as I was able to be.
When I was 12-14 years old, I knew for a fact that I would meet Barbra one day. There was really no question. I remember saving for months to purchase "Just for the Record" and I'm not sure any purchase since has provided so many hours of education and entertainment. My admiration fueled my determination and it seemed impossible to never cross paths with my greatest hero.
Now, a bit more than twice that age, realism has cast a shadow over those bright youthful ideas. I can't help but feel sad for my younger self and her dreams. She knew she could achieve anything and everything she set her mind to, even meeting Barbra Streisand herself. I hate to rain on that girls parade.
I believe the hardest thing for an avid admirer to realize is that they are merely one of countless multitudes. We all feel a special connection to this one person. This one person who, despite the grandeur of her accomplishments and persona, is still a human being, just like us in many ways.
We're all just people...even the greatest people of us all.....are people.

thanks for the words Jkelly! iknow she's a person, as me as you, but i really believe in this dream, that is more like a vision in my head, and i don't feel as if i own the world, nothing like that, but i truly know that "nothing's impossible", at least not to someone who stay strong to their ideals, and the hopes, maybe in the next life, maybe one of these crazy days, but the time will come to me.. who knows?,meanwhile i'm dealing with my life, because when you less expect it, is when great things happens... and if she has the power to cause such an energy and inspiration in me, i have to use that, and go for it, the most wanted thing ever crossed my mind <3
It's amazing how many folks there are that feel the same about Barbra as I do. Like Silkwind, I wanted so to see Barbra at the Vanguard. I tried my best but to no avail. I've always worried that if I did ever have the blessed chance encounter with her, I would probably pass out from the excitement.
My dream of a lifetime was to see Barbra perform in person. I really didn't think I would ever do that. I live in Kentucky--not a very likely location for her to do a concert. Besides she had never done any concert tours, her career obviously never needed the extra boost. Then wonder of wonders, the news of the '94 tour hit the papers. I prayed hard and a lot. And blessed be, I managed to get 2 tickets to the Detroit concert. My partner and I took a long weekend and drove to Detroit. I don't think I've ever been more excited in my life. Still it was surreal, I'm not sure I could even process the idea of seeing live after all those years. Until she walked out on that stage and then all that pent up emotion from all those years flooded out. I cried through the whole first number. But after that I had a smile on my face that a jack hammered couldn't have removed! I had my night with Barbra and it was every bit as magical and exciting as I dreamed it would be. If I should ever be that blessed again, it will be even more so I'm sure.

I just want to ask a question. I understand she has very sensitive hearing. I also have very sensitive hearing. This is why I have hearing loss & my ears ring. I am just wondering if she also has the same problem. And if she does is there anything you have done for this condition.
gosh. my hopes and dreams just died as you all shared these stories on how no one can really meet her... ever. unless she does a concert tour again, that would be awesome i really hope she does. no matter where it is i will go even if i have to pay 1500 for a ticket i will be there.

During your interview on Oprah yesterday,I could really relate with many of the
things you said on show which made me realize we have a lot in common in our
thinking.
I've always hoped to meet you. You came to Sacramento,CA. a few weeks ago to
be honored with an award, I would have loved to been able to go that night in
hopes to meet you.
I hope you don't think I've over stepped any of your boundaries. That wasn't my
intention.
There's one thing I've always wanted to share with you is the nicest thing my ex-
husband ever said to me is: "that I remind him of You".

Dear Kalena41:
You are wonderful and remember
You are the "star" of your own show.
Much Love!
After reading the previous emails, I know that this one will get nowhere. BUT I hope that something I say will move Ms. Streisand to rethink her political positions. Please be one of the first American Jewish professionals to realize that you have been taken in by Obama and his socialist cohorts. Please read that stuff that you have been avoiding - yes the conservative columnists - because they are correct and you and about 85% of American Jews voted for Obama simply because he was a democrat. Don't you know that most Israelis would never vote for Obama. (Look it up). Don't you know that Mr. Obama gave millions of dollars to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to the US? (Look it up) Please say that you know Obama's background and collection of friends is antisemitic. (Look it up). I am only trying to inform influen tial American Jews of what they have done by voting for Obama. It's all known if you can get by the liberal lies. That's all I will ever say. I pray that you pay attention. A long-time fan. ( I saw you in Philadelphia in the 60's).
Dear Barbra,
Please watch the Glenn Beck TV show on FOX at 5:00 pm eastern time on Friday, April 8, 2011. You will see his true feelings about Israel and know that all the info you have been receiving from the liberal media has been lies. Hope that you actually see this email. Only trying to save the country, your fan Bob
Dear Barbra, the Glenn Beck program on FOX on April 8 was pre-empted!!! I cannot believe this!!! The show is apparently going to be shown on Fox, Fri, April 15, 2011 at 5:00 pm eastern time. It is about Glenn's feeling about Israel. It will be totally different from everything you have ever heard about Glenn Beck. I have NO connection to Glenn Beck and am doing this only to inform prominent American Jews about the terrible mistake they are making by supporting Barack Obama. Someday when you realize that I am telling the truth I would love to hear a response from you. Bob, a long-time fan in FL.
