Unreleased recordings

Unreleased recordings

Hopefully, someday soon, there will be a series of CD's of all of her unleased recordings. I can think of no other artist that I would have any interest in hearing rehearsal takes or recordings that did not "measure up" to the artist's specifications. However, with Barbra, I'd gladly listen to about anything she does.

Yes, I agree. In fact I posted a similar comment on another thread somewhere here. I suggested another Just For The Record, which would be terrific! I just think that there is a treasure trove of unreleased recordings and performances that would be a huge seller.

I would love to hear all the stuff in the archives--what about the long-rumored DVD version of "Just for the Record" with perfromance footage that was supposed to come out years ago? Also, wouldn't it be interesting to hear and have documented the creative process Barbra goes through to, say, record one song? The rehearsals, the decisions as to tempo, arrangement, etc., multiple takes, even abandoned songs. We can always hope...

I think that when Sony re-released the Essential album in the US, the 3rd CD was a missed opportunuity. It could have included all of her unrealsed material, like One Day, the studio version of Ordinary Miracles, the original Can't Help Lovin That man (which is on the Broadway album DVD), It Doesn't Get Better Than This (Orginally recorded for Mirror, but replaced with Finally Found Someone), songs from the 2nd Broadway album that was not released including The Garden Grow.....there must be enough to warrant at least one album's worth of material.

Also, I think we should start a petition for Sony to re-release the Nuts CD, the musicis so beautiful and it really is a credit to Barbra for her compositions. The CD is very hard to find (it cost me $60 on ebay!) and I think that it should be given a new lease of life.

Sometimes things aren't released because they really aren't that good. It's really happened in the past that artists have been burned because their labels didn't think and reissued something from thirty or forty years ago that was held back from release at the time it was recorded, because of its quality. It might not have even been Barbra Streisand's fault that (possibly) something didn't live up to her or Columbia's standards. It might have been the a&r people not thinking. For example, "Willow Weep For Me" has been long rumored to have been a song intended for "Simply Streisand". Part of me thinks it would be great to hear it, but another part of me thinks maybe Ms. Streisand and/or Columbia decided not to release it because it didn't live up to their standards. Why hasn't her 1969 Las Vegas concert that was filmed for television ever been seen? It's been forty years, maybe CBS or Ms. Streisand didn't think too much of the finished product. This isn't intended as a slam either. It just means that like almost all of us, Barbra Streisand wants to be known by her best work.

oh i sure hope those rare songs get released

I had a fight with the members on that hideous simplystreisand.com forum about those rare unreleased tracks because they will not let you download them unless you have 100 posts, which i think is totally unfair.

But much of that never released material is already known as some of Streisand’s best work. I’ve got almost all of it - and some of it unfortunately in a bad technical quality but …believe me much of this material is simply amazing and so beautiful!!! I find it very hard to believe that Barbra wasn’t happy about the recording: “Life Cycle of a Woman” – songs like “The Smile I've Never Smiled” and “Once You've Been In Love” are awesome! A few of the rare singles were included on “Just For The Record” but there are SO many which deserves to be released and enjoyed too! Smiling

Dear colormemichael, you are NOT being fair here! You know why we – at the simplystreisand.com - have the reason about 100 posts before getting access to downloading … so please don’t bring your bitterness to this forum too. Everyone was very nice and open to you as we are to all new members who want to share the joy and admiration for Barbra’s work and art. Eye-wink

Arne

i guess you are right Arne

now let's get back to the rare recordings

i think Barbra should release like a just for the record vol 2 with the singles, demos, and live recordings

by the way Tkimsal87

about a year ago i saw a homemade VHS copy of the just for the record video on ebay

I don't remember how much it sold for but i remember when i looked the highest bid was at least $50

so many of this recordings are available somewhere on the net and I know people who have at least four or five cd full of outtakes and unreleased material many of which are wonderful to listen too like the complete "Auf dem wasser zu zingen" that was recorded for the Classical album in a different and serious version. it would be so beatiful to have this recordings officially released, cause those people they sell them for a lot of money and make money on devoted fans. I personally couldn't resist and bought a couple but really I hated to pay 60 dollars for a 14 songs cd........
.

i bought one a few years ago on ebay from mexico which was at least $15-20 plus shipping
i also have the rare 1963 live at the hungry i lp which i paid i think about $15 on ebay

I would love to hear some of the unreleased material!

What about A HAPPENING IN CENTRAL PARK? I would love the entire 2 1/2 hour concert. You?

I agree with all of the above, there are too many people out there ripping us off and I think Barbra and her record company should get together and release these rare music moments for all us true fans who would be willing to pay for it, instead of other sites ripping us off, time for another Just For The Record 2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
