I just listened to this program - it's still avaialble on the website to listen to for 7 days. If You Go Away is absolutely outstanding! I love when Barbra sings in French too. A very honest and touching rendition of the Jacques Brel song.

In the Wee Small Hours of the Morninig is also very good. I loved it.

Here's the link to the radio program for those who have not heard it yet: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mc0lw

I agree. The tracks are incredible!

H E L P ! I can get to the above UKRadio 2 site, but for the life of me can NOT figure how to get her songs? Help please

Nancy

ALRIGHT! I finally figured it out, you had to listen to the whole program. I was just clicking on her song and would get her biography, duh!!!
I must say I am nearly certain my favorite on this album will be IF YOU GO AWAY.
I have always loved it by Dusty Springfield, and listening to Barbra's version was ...OMG, fantastic.
Thank you SPACE CAPTAIN for the addy---Nancy

OMG, "If You Go Away" is simply amazing. Barbra is at the top of her form on this song. It's really an incredible performance.

Have to admit that I'm VERY curious what these songs will sound like in the "quartet" or "unplugged" versions on the Deluxe CD.

Wow.

Still amazed and impressed after all these years by Streisand.

WOW
such a velvet voice and emotionally rich performance! ...amazing track!
this is certainly not jazz, this is pure chanson and this is also your future, Barbra
Looking forward for your new /...another, next one.../ album of chansones Eye-wink

Craig - I was thinking exactly the same thing! In fact, right after listening to If you go away, I put on Je M'apelle Barbra and listened to it all afternoon.

@Nancy H - You're welcome. If you check out Matt's website, he has the timings of Barbra's songs posted so you can scroll right to them and don't have to listen to the entire BBC program. www.barbra-archives.com

Matt - just to say your website just rocks these days! All the news at a glance, and lucky for us there's plenty of it these days.

If You Go Away--what a stunning, beautiful and heartbreaking record. I'm speechless.

Just woke up here in the UK at 07.20 and radio 2 playing 'Smoke gets in your eyes',
Incredibly. Listen to it on their page guys.

oh, dear, just heard it on Radio 2 website... sooo light, gentle and beautiful!!
Barbra really surprised me when she pushed me up to the cloud with those sudden raising high notes at the end! Didn't expect that. Imagine it's just one take! woow! How come she doesn't sound like 67?
Thank you Steve for the information!

Thank you Steve for letting us know. I went straight to Radio 2 and have listened to Smoke.... about 4 times now. It's just amazing. I did not expect that ending. The vocals are so raw and Barbra sounds just fantastic. Anyone thinking she was playing it safe will be surprised when they hear her going for it on this track. I found it really exciting to listen to.

Breathtaking Barbra once again Smiling

I’m crying here … ”If You Go Away” are the most heartfelt song I’ve listen to for a very long time! This is so so pretty, moving and beautiful, and so much Jacques Brel. Barbra is even singing in French here too ... and she's simply acting this lyric/song - BRAVO!

Arne - I totally agree with you. That's how I felt. While listening, I had to stop and close my eyes. This is my favourite track on the album so far. Outstanding!

Steve3dreams------- since there are two postings about this song I will copy and paste this here as well. Thank you for the info Steve!

Re: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
Ohhhhhhhhhh, okay then, everyone jump on me NOW. After listening to Smoke....on BBC2 three times, I'm hoping it will sound better when I get my CD. The word NOW in the later part of the song, just rubs my eardrums wrong...being the perfectionist that she is, I tend to believe this will sound better when I actually have it in my hands. Ok, ok, if you all want to pounce on me, go ahead, I can take it. It is afterall only my opinion.

Nancy

Nice to see the UK has started publicity already!! It was great to hear 3 full length versions. Although I wish I had the willpower to ignore all of the online clips, and wait to hear the CD. "Like a child at Christmas!"

.....haha, you too, huh Craig, it's that sort of curiousity killed the cat type of thing ... I couldn't help but go to the BBC for those full songs....my fingers just sort of hint the keyboard and next thing I knew Barbra was singing! I think it is called poor willpower, hee hee.

Nancy

thanks to BBC got "if u go away" and "smoke" in my player already!
such a treasure! Smiling
can't wait to hold the album in my hands
cover is beautiful...
