Message to Barbra

Message to Barbra

As a 16 year old girl who felt like she never fit in anywhere, your songs guided me through a very difficult time in my life. I danced a solo to "A Piece of Sky" from Yentl, it's still my favorite piece I've ever danced. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us, you'll never know how many lives you have and will continue to touch. Best Wishes ~ Melinda

That's great Misha - you know some teenagers rebel by blasting obnoxious rock music, etc. I always drove down the street blaring Streisand songs - lol.

Does Barbra read these postings?

I have grown up listening to Barbra! Her music is a genuine inspiration to so many people! I know this from the heart because her music gave me strength and courage to continue when I lost my husband and best friend!

Thank you for all you do Barbra!!!!

I can't help but think that she may be drawn to the inspiration of two teenagers who drive down the street blasting Streisand! If the world was cruising to "Love is the Answer", we would be living in a different and better world.

Does Barbara read these postings?

I most certainly would say . . yes.

We've all become addicted to the internet and I'm sure The Diva has got the bug as well.

So be careful what you say here....lol...hahahaha

Isn't her duet with Michael Crawford just the best thing you ever heard in your entire life?

Dear Dear Barbra: I have no idea whether you will ever see this, but telling you what you and your work have meant to me has long been on my life list, so I am going to share this in the hope that you will see it and understand that what you put out into the world helps us all to grow roots and wings. That I chose to do this today, only to see that today was the release date for Yentl seems more than synchronistic.

When Yentl was first in theatres, I went to see it seven times in two weeks, and each time I returned home to write a couple of scenes for my own script of Anne of Green Gables, which I later produced, designed and directed in the high school where I taught English and Drama. Just as you came from the place of the Queen, my major archetype was Kore Persephone. I needed to learn to love the Queen in me, and you helped me to do that. I made a soundtrack for my journey, and Piece of Sky provided the bookends for that journey. I have watched your Piece of Sky medley with Lauren Frost hundreds of times. I hope it is not presumptuous to say that I was incredibly happy for you, because it seemed to me that you had found the child in you and had learned to truly love her, just as you have helped me to truly love the Queen in me.

The DVD of your 2006 tour was life-altering. It arrived at a time in my life where I was finally ready to embrace the Queen, and all of your choices worked on me in a totally alchemical fashion. The fact that it was set in the underworld with the colours of fuchsia and midnight blue, that the Queen has four men and you invited IL Divo to join you, that the stools and the set were designed to reflect those four men, that your dress was designed to reflect those four men, that you wore the divine twins on your wrists and were flanked by them and caressed them as you descended the ramps...........brilliant and transcendent. That there were also the white, fuchsia and red roses of the child, the queen and the great mother and the phases of the moon in the lighting that reflected the triple goddess.......what is there to say but WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you have carried the image of the Queen for me, Neil Diamond has carried the image of Dionysos. That you actually recorded a song together, performed it at the Grammy awards, and attended the same high school seems to me to be sublime in its synchronicity.

I understand that you are a very real person, Barbra, and I have always admired *you* for your integrity and your vulnerability, for your passion and your tenacity, as well as for your inimitable artistry. In some of your interviews (Rosie), I have seen you struggling to make sense of what all the fuss is about since you are *just* a person who cares deeply about the quality of her work. The truth is that artists carry the archetypes out to people in the same way that the great stories from mythology do. You and your work have transformed my life in profound and wonderful ways

........and I thank you from my heart's deep core, Barbra.

Namaste. Gaye Fullerton Toronto, Canada

What planet are you on Prosperanda? I wonder if Barbra will share the same sentiments Smiling for your mystical interpretation of her and her 2006 concert. Just the same, it is fair to say that we are both loving and adoring fans of Barbra.

I am 16 years old and I also blare Barbra's CDs when I drive!!!! All of my songs on my iPOD are Barbra's!! What a difference from all the rap songs my friends are into!! LOL!! They think I'm crazy, but I don't care! Barbra has the most beautiful voice of all time!!! She has inspired me in sooooooooooo many different ways!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Barbra! XOXOXOXO

After seeing the interview with Oprah I feel I need to write. I am looking for more information about the dolls. I thought I saw something on the show about there was actually a shop somewhere? My mother passed away in June of this year and I have been given a few antique ones. There is a Flora Dora (sp) doll that is in need of repair. Mom fell on the doll a month before her passing and broke her arm. I have been looking for a doll hospital I can trust to fix her and thought perhaps Barbara would know of one. May seem such a funny request but I want to honor my Mom and have her fixed.
I will turn 60 next month and I have enjoyed the music so much. Thank you sincerely Barbara for sharing your beautiful voice with the world.
Wendy

I recently saw your interview with Jonathan Ross on BBC. You mentioned "The Way We Were" and how you took the part because of the 50 page treatment and 5 Great Scenes. Can you tell me what those scenes were? Just curious and have some thoughts as to what scenes they were.

All The Best,

Tom

OMG!!!!!!!!

I am speechless. well in this case typeless. I am a new fan of yours. I hope you actually see these. If you do I wish for contact in any form.

I love love love you. Okay so i don't actually know you, but I feel like I do. You are amazing. I think you are so BEAUTIFUL, I wish I had your eyes and face structure. More than anything I wish I had that beautiful voice. As I have stated earlier, I am a new fan so I have not heard all of your music, I have not seen all of your movies, and I have not seen any of your television appearances. I guess I have been living under a rock. I am only 19 so I could not see most of your movies in theaters. I am on a mission to meet you. I have sought out to see all of your movies, television appearances, and to get all of your music. So far I have seen, Funny Girl, The Owl and the Pussycat, The Way We Were, A Star is Born, The Prince of Tides, The Mirror has Two Faces, and Meet the Fockers. I love each and every one of these movies. After I saw these movies I attempted to get the soundtracks, because the songs are amazing. I also got some spoken word things that you did. Dialogue (Barbra and Brother Time) (Live), Dialogue (Father, Part #1) (Live), (Father, Part #2) (Live), There was another Monologue Don Rickles did. Then just a monologue by you. Therapist Dialogue 1,2, and 3 (Live). So I have been like obsessed with you. Yes weird I know. I am no psycho though.

I myself want to be an actress more than I want anything else in the world, besides to meet you. I have done some research on how to do that but cannot find anything. I love to sing and dance. I keep telling myself that this is my year the year I will meet you the year I will become an Actress. I feel I should be positive and my dreams will come true. I decided to look you up, Now i know I don't really know you, but you are amazing. You have principles, you are intelligent, and you are living your life how you want. I have always been attracted to acting. I don't really want it for the money. I am just a natural force of bubbly and always trying to help others and just so NOT shy. I am actually to scared to go "public". As you said in A Star is Born. Anyway after looking you up I definitely wanted to meet you. I would just love to have a conversation with you. I would love to get some advice from you. I would even love to work for you just to be close to you. I don't know how this works, how to contact you or anything you are so hard to reach. I would not scream and all that I would be speechless and probably cry.

Funny story. I saw The Prince of Tides, and I loved it sooooooooo much I watched it several times. So many times I almost have your lines down. Okay the funny part, my nickname is now Lowenstein. Also there was a line where Tom said something about his sister being a Brooklyn Jew. So sometimes my voice completely changes to a New York accent and I call myself a Brooklyn Jew. I saw Funny Girl, and Don't Rain on My Parade is like one of my favorite songs, one day I ran down the street singing it. I have this cousin, ok we live in South Carolina, and we are African American, she is very southern I guess you could say. She says stuff like scrimp, scripes, scraight, ok I think you get the point. Anyway, so I recently moved in with them. I share a room with her, we rent movies a lot. She told me she does not like "white people" movies. I was a little upset by her comment but I kind of understood what she meant. She likes movies like Baby Boy, Hustle and Flow, etc.
I had her watch your movies with me and some other "white people" movies if you may. She says she likes them now but my point was you are that great. She says now I like "Barbra Scriesand", Are we gonna watch her movies? She even sings the songs from them. She likes "I finally found someone" and "People". People I know think I am crazy for liking you. You shouldn't be my "type" they say. Guess what I don't care. You are very much my "TYPE". I still have a long way to go to be a huge fan I guess.

I see a lot of myself in many of the characters you play. You are a wonderful role model. I hope you get this very long letter and I hope to meet you as we all do on this website which is why we are here.( My cousin just walked by me typing and told me to tell you hello for her, and to tell you she loves I finally found someone.) I don't have very much money now, but when I get lots more of it I plan to buy all of your everything. You have to have money to meet celebrities, its otherwise impossible. You just wait Barbra I am gonna meet you.

I hate I am jumping all over the place, but I am just elated, just thinking that you may see this. Here is something sort of crazy. When i see a picture of you or if i see that you may respond to something or you were in my city or the thought crosses my mind that I may actually meet you or you may actually know that i exist I actually start to cry and laugh hysterically. It is crazy. People think I am crazy but, its like uncontrollable.

Well that is all for now. I love you to pieces. When I meet you I will love you even more.

Oh I almost forgot. I am single at the moment and I am only 19 but, I plan to get married in the future. I would love for you to sing at my wedding ( I Finally Found Someone).

Wow girl, you are excited!!! Smiling

I have been a fan of Barbara's since I first saw her sometime in 1963, I believe when she was on the Judy Garland show. Her voice and songs have brought me hours of enjoyment and peace. Thank you Barbara!

I am curious if Barbra will be on the telethon for Haiti tonight?

I am the biggest fan of Barbra's EVER! I am 53 yrs. old but have been awed by her my whole life. Anyone who know's me, knows how much I love and admire her.

In fact, I am a new (unpublished so far) Children's Picture Book writer and want to write a story about her, either fiction or non-fiction. If Barbra does read these posts or someone reads them for her, I am interested in finding out if it is ok to refer to her in my book. I have not decided if I will make it about her life's story, or make it fiction on how a little girl just adores her. I absolutely without question would be more then happy to send her my manuscript, once its written, for complete approval first before I ever send it in for possible publication.

I do have a person that is a very close friend of mine, that has met Barbra and in fact her husband worked for Jeff Bridges, that is available for references of my character etc..

I have no other reason in this world or hidden agenda, other then to write a wonderful story with either just Barbra's name in it or if she wants, to write it about her life. But make it fun for a child to read!

If Barbra does read these or an assistant of hers, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Al

Hello Ms Streisand ..
I was a Seminarian at fourteen years of age … That was over forty years ago.

One of my fondest memories is one of my teacher and mentor … Fr Aquinas Stack O Carm. He is a Carmelite priest.
Among the host of things he taught all of us at the Seminary was music appreciation … Handel's Massiah … Gershwin's … An American in Paris … and so many many more.
His private and personal favorite was always … Barbara Streisand
From 1969 thru the 70's … He had every one of your LP's …
He played them prolifically in his personal quarters and invited all to enjoy them with him (accompanied by commentary as to why you were his favorite ) … I have not seen or spoken with Fr Aquinas in some thirty-five years …. However, we never forget our lessons of music appreciation ...
I have very recently received this information:

Father Aquinas Stack, O.Carm.  has been diagnosed with tumors that have invaded the liver and spread to the colon. He has had significant weight loss; loss of appetite and is quite weak. He is under a doctor's care and is being made comfortable by his local community at home. He would appreciate prayers and is very much at peace with his situation. Having recently lost his dear brother, Jack, he is very tired and weak. Please lift him up in prayer.

The address I have for Fr. Aquinas is the retirement residence as follows:
St. Elias Priory

a message to barbra- if she(you) actually read it-that would be special.i want to make it short. you give the people (including me )so much hope and faith- i really couldn't imagine a world without you. don't think anyone could fill your spot. it's hard to find something else to say... especially after all that has been said so far. I've often been disappointed.. in people... and whenever noone was there (except maybe god) you have been there... singing to me. In my family i always had to be someone and it's funny- but you freed me. all those expectations..- I really was becoming martina. old ,sad- biitter. and when all my friends deserted me and i couldn't cry - your music was my shelter. I understand you're not divine, not perfect... not an angel. but you awoke someone i thought was dead, made me feel myself, true happiness again. and it helped me to make every day brighter and thanks to you i am now standing steady on my feet... yeah i have learned to love again, my sister, the one who shares my pain.
thanks for saving me, please don't ever stop reaching out to those who don't dare themselves. love, melanie Smiling

Since I was a young boy I have watched your films and heard your music. Your place in this world and what you give to us make our would a better place to be. I remember the day my son was born the tv network was airing a showing of your album. As one of the single most important memories of my life my son was comming into this world while hearing your song "Tell Him". I am just about to deploy to Afghanistan and wanted to tell you how much your music means to my life. And I will be taking your music with me to remind myself there is beauty in this life. Bless you and yours.

Sincerely,
Spc. Andromalius

I'm 14 and I love barbra's style of music, its fun and calming. Is barbra still waanting to adopt...I would love for her to be my mom! You can be my mom Barbra!

Dear Barbra,

if you do see this I just wanted to say I'm Hailey, 15, and a huge fan as you probably hear often. I sent you a fan letter a few days ago. I sent it to your manager hoping he'd pass it on. I could be like others and say your music inspires me, I listen to you everyday, yahta yahta yahta. All of that would be true, but I'd like to also mention how I feel I have things in common with you. When I hear your thoughts and opinions I'm always amazed at how simaler they are to mine. I could go on for hours, but I know you don't have time to read hours worth of posts so I'll keep it short. Stay true to yourself and enjoy life. You're very much loved by many.

Love,
Hailey H.

Dearest Barbra: My best friend called me at work and asked would I like to see you in concert.....of course I said yes! This was in 1994. She began to make the many calls using speed dial , within fifteen minutes someone answered, she was so excited she hit the wrong button and was disconnected, with much determination she continued and in that famous hour when the lines were jammed someone picked up again. She called me back and said we're going, I asked where , I thought I'm going to England if necessary, to my surprise it was Auburn Hills, Michigan. I'll never forget the anticipation of arriving to see you. Jacqueline Kennedy had died a few hours before the concert...you dedicated the concert to her. Then the mystery was solved why you chose Auburns Hills...you explained that when you went on the road ( professionally ) for the first time you appearred in a small room, then you revealed that the man who owned that club was the owner of the arena where you performed Barbra The Concert ! I couldn't buy enough memorabilia , I had to have it !!! The audience was so quiet and respectful....it's a memory I will always cherish and it was a gift from my high school friend!

Thank you for the music, full of hope, joy and wormth.

My dear Barbra, Ms. Streisand, Mrs. BROLIN...I am almost 59 years old and my admiration for you and your work extends back as far as 1963. You were the most original, unique, special artist I had ever heard or seen (the Dinah Shore Show, Judy Garland's Show, Ed Sullivan's)in my 12 short years on the planet ! I had always enjoyed music and had my favorite singers, but YOU were, as they say, the "entire package". Style, pizzazz, tenderness, warmth, strength, passion, unusual beauty, you were the first real musical inspiration for me. I liked that you were a Jewish girl from New York, being an Italian girl from Jersey, I could somehow connect with your essence. The fact that you hadn't spent years studying music and art, weren't from a wealthy family or a show-biz one, that you designed your own clothes and chose your own songs all made an enormous impression. When I was lonely, I would listen to your early albums and some of the themes resonated with me as a young teen. You sounded as if you were reaching for the moon in so many songs e.g., "I Can See It", "the Nearness of You", the heartbreak of "My Man" and "Cry me a River", the gentleness of "A New love, is like a newborn child"...these were truly a comfort and inspiration to me. I learned all the words to "My Pa"(which always made me cry ) and even sang "the Boy Next Door" at one of our family picnics ! Seeing "Funny Girl", watching you on screen in a film for the first time opened a whole new happy world for me. I always believed, and still do, that the reason your talent and continued presence in our culture have persevered is because deep down inside, you're not a "super-star" but someone who loves her family, friends, and is thankful for the gifts God gave her. I was fortunate enough to see you perform in 1994 at Madison Square Garden; your 'class act', which was sweet, funny, clever, heartfelt and genuine, reinforced everything I had always believed about you, as an artist and a woman who gives of herself not just through her work, but through many humanitarian causes. You once were asked in an interview with Ms. Diane Sawyer, I think, "How would you want to be remembered ?( paraphrasing here) and you said "as someone who contributed". Well, Barbra, you've done and continue to do, MORE of your share. Thanks for being there "in spirit" each time I listen to an an album, or watch one of your films . By the way, recently we decided to pop "the Prince of Tides" into our DVD player (for the 4th or 5th time) ; I must compliment you on a story told with sensitivity, humanity, respect and a great deal of love, which shows in EVERY frame ! Have a wonderful birthday !! Fran from Trenton, NJ

Barbra,

You've been that woman figure I've needed in my life. You've filled that void in me, of not having the mother I so desperately need and want. One who accepts, pushes me to do it all, and believes anything is possible. I shed the need to be accepted by anybody. I finally feel beautiful in my own skin, and I wouldn't change anything about me. Growing up in an abusive home, with conservative values, where the woman cannot speak, you have given me strength. I have two years to go before I leave it all behind, and I feel like you've been with me my entire journey. When I turn eighteen, I'm off to New York to sing in clubs and try to make my name known. You got out, and you inspire me to get out and make my situation known. I speak against homophobia, sexual harassment, emotional and physical abuse, and the sexism I've endured in my life's walk. You shape me of who I am today. Without you, I'd probably be on the streets or by myself not knowing where to go, or what to do next. Thank you for inspiring this sixteen year old girl to try to become better than what her situation tries to make her. And for being the mother I don't have.

You are my superwoman. ♥

I had a dteam about you. Sure, I wanted to meet you.
And, wow!! I was happy. Even James was in it.
You were sitting on a sofa. James was sitting on back of another sofa.
And I was walking around , talking.
Well, I wrote a srcond poem awhile back. But, I thought this was a good one to share.

I look forward to your new CD.

There for you, always
Mike

I have been listening to your music for years, and believe I have most of your albums, concerts and movies. My problem is that I am hearing disabled and have a very difficult time understanding some of the words to the songs (my wonderful husband helps me). It would be so wonderful for me and other people with my problem if the concerts were either close captioned or subtitled so that the words would be clear.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful voice with all of us.

Nita Taylor

I don't know if you actually read the posts but I want to thank you. Your voice has saved my life so many times. I thank God for you. I have been listening to you for more than 20 years and I am thankful. I know that your voice has been a blessing to many but it has been a lifesaver for me. If you ever wonder what it has all been for, know that you have made the difference in my life. I thank you and I wish you all the love and happiness that God can give to you and yours. Thank you and Bless you always.
