Sunset Boulevard - A Remake with Barbra of course!!!

Hi all! I always thought it would great if Barbra either remade or starred in Sunset Boulevard a movie remake. Yes i know its a classic but this time as a musical movie. Cant you hear Barbra sing those lines again but this time in character, "I dont know why Im frightened".......

Considering William Wyler directed the original and also Funny Girl it just seems like its to be!

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts!

Cheers!

A few years ago, when the project of a motion picture seemed "soon-to-be", her name was made many times as one of the favourite choices for the role of Norma Desmond, alongside Glenn Close and Meryl Streep.
It's some time I don't find any more news about a movie version of this musical, maybe it has been shelved, who knows?!
Anyway, in my opinion, as Norma she would be simply great and touching, with her high sensibility and intelligence; moreover, if we consider the 2 songs she performed in BACK TO BROADWAY, it's not unfair to affirm she would be the best musical/vocal choice.

The problem with a remake is keeping with the context of the original movie. The silent reels Norma and Joe (Gloria Swanson and William Holden) were watching were actual Gloria Swanson silent film footage from the 1920's. They may be able to re-context it using Barbra's early 1960's footage, but that would loose steam as the timing was 1950. The play followed the time line, and I thnk any deviation from this would be disasterous. And God help us if Nora Ephron was chosen to write! (Example: The botching of Bewitched, and the wry attempt at The Women).

I think she should do a film with Jane Fonda. The two are sisters estranged from one another early in their teens as one killed an violently abusive parent and made it look like an accident, each swearing to secrecy (living across the country from one another) unitl one day each receives a letter from the only living eyewitness! Perhaps one of them could be a newspaper editor and the other a crime novelist. They get together to track down the witness and take things into their own hands...one last time. Jennifer Aniston could play the young Barbra character and perhaps Clare Danes, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, or Bridget Fonda the younger Jane character. There could be flashbacks galore.

This is another rumor that has been floating around for a number of years. I'd LOVE Barbra to star as Norma Desmond. The music in this show ranks with Andrew Lloyd Webber's best, and Barbra worked her magic when she sang "With One Look" and "As If We Never Said Goodbye".

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this happens, as well as Barbra's long-planned film adaptation of "The Normal Heart".

I just cant see Streisand playing an eccentric has been... Maybe Liza...

nope. only Glenn Close could play that character..

Yes, Glenn Close was great on stage, but I think only Liza can have on screen that "crazyness" that the caracter needs. I think Barbra is too gentle to perform that kind of caracter: I would love to finally have her doing The Normal Heart. I have the cd of the Broadway reading and it is just fantastic. let's hope it!
