Songs that you would like to hear in Barbra voice
There is a song that I like very much and is "Eyes of Love" from Ice Castle that I think will link with Barbra pretty well.
And then a little different but also beautiful the sung version by Miguel Bosé and Noa of the music of the Italian Film "La vita è bella".
I would like to know other opinions if it is possible.
Thanks

Good topic Ana! I don't know that song, but I will search for it. I like Noa.
Here's my idea:
There is a wonderful song of the brazilian composer , musician and singer
Milton Nascimento : BRIDGES
Many ( jazz) singers have recorded that song - Sarah Vaughan, Mark Murphy, Dianne Reeves . BRIDGES would be also a perfect song for Barbra's new CD.
See the lovely and great lyrics.
I have crossed a thousand bridges
In my search for something real
There were great suspension bridges
Made like spider webs of steel
There were tinny wooden trestles
And there were bridges made of stone
I have always been a stranger and
I've always been alone
There's a bridge to tomorrow
There's a bridge to the past
There's a bridge made of sorrow
That I pray will not last
There's a bridge made of color
In the sky high above
And I pray that there must be
Bridges made out of love
I can see him in the distance
On the river's other shore
And his arms reach out in longing
As my own have done before
And I call across to tell him
Where I believe the bridge must lie
And I'll find it
Yes I'll find it
If I search until I die
When the bridges is between us
We'll have nothing to say
We will run thru the sunlight
And he'll meet me halfway
There's a bridge made of color
In the sky high above
And I know that there must be
Bridges made out of love
Other fantastic songs would be TIME AFTER TIME, BODY AND SOUL, SKYLARK!!
Best Werner
"Come What May", an original song from Moulin Rouge!
Definitiely Windmills of your Mind.
Agree about "Windmills". One of that great Legrand-songs, she never recorded....
@Chrismark: "Come What May" is the titlesong of the last record by Roslyn Kind, Barbra's sister. ( very nice record!!) Did you mean that song??
Werner
Any number of songs by Tennant/Lowe (otherwise known as PET SHOP BOYS). Their songs are vastly under-rated--but are every bit as substantive and powerful as some of the best songs ever written. I would love to hear Barbra sing, for instance, "So Sorry, I Said" or "King's Cross" or "To Face the Truth" or "It Always Comes As a Surprise" or "Tonight is Forever" or "Dreaming of the Queen" or "The Theatre" to name a bunch off the top of my head. I am NOT saying I want Barbra to make a dance album, but rather these songs have the substance and power that would allow them to stand up to reinterpretation by someone of Barbra's talent.
For instance, here are the lyrics to "So Sorry, I Said"--
If this is a ghetto, I'm in it with you
If it's just a prison, I'm locked in it too
I tried to leave you, but after all that we had said
I went to pieces when I should have shouted and screamed instead:
So sorry, I said
Your powers of persuasion, those quizzical eyes
Have tired and tied me, with innocent guile
I would have walked out, and after all the tears we shed
I should have stalked out, gone and painted the town bright red
But instead
So sorry, I said
How tough it gets, don't talk to me about it!
To pay off your debts, I worked on overtime
And you say you never believed in luck
If you need a reason, consider me mad
An old retainer, loyal and sad
I bought my freedom, but after all that we had shared
I couldn't leave you think of the skins I'd have to shed
instead
So sorry, I said
So sorry, I said
So sorry, I said
How FANTASTIC would it be to hear Barbra's interpretation of that lyric?
Or how about "It Always Comes As a Surprise"--
I cant be cool
Or nonchalant
Call me an impulsive fool
Youre all I want
You may be right
Its too much too soon
To talk of love all night
In your bedroom
I dont know why
It always comes as a surprise
To find
Im here with you
You smile
And I am rubbing my eyes
At a dream come true
I wont play games
Or waste your time
But I wont feel ashamed
To speak my mind
So just relax
Dont question why
For calculated facts
Will not apply
I dont know why
It always comes as a surprise
To find
Im here with you
You smile
And I am rubbing my eyes
At a dream come true
In my life
Thereve been few
Whove affected me
The way you do
(you do you do)
Ill tell no lies
I wont pretend
But if youve a broken heart
Ill help it mend
I dont know why
It always comes as a surprise
To find
Im here with you
You smile
And I am rubbing my eyes
At a dream come true
Smile
And I am rubbing my eyes
At a dream come true
ANOTHER lyric I'd love, love, LOVE to hear Barbra sing...
Someone like you (perfeita para a vóz divina de Barbra)
If we are still in the Jazz mood I would like to hear her sing "Besame Mucho". I love Diana's version, but I would really love Barbra to sing this also.
I think that Barbra could just sing the phonebook and it would be sublime. Songs I have always wanted to hear her record are :
Vienna, I Am What I Am, and a duet with Bette Midler. Anything those two would collaborate on would be dynamic.
Plus, since she is such a big Billie Holliday fan, wouldn't it be great for Barbra to create an album of some of her standards?
I'm lucky because one of my choices is actually on the new album: Where Do You Start. Just a poignant lyric and beautiful melody.
I'd also like to hear her take on Sondheim's Not A Day Goes By. It's a song full of the kind of yearning for which Barbra's voice seems tailor made.
for Werner:
I didn't know about Roslyn's album... Sincerely, I don't know much about her
I was referring to the song "Come What May" written for the motion picture "Moulin Rouge!" (sung originally by Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor)
I would have liked to hear her sing "I dreamed a dream" from Les Misérables with her unique ability to portray the characters' feelings and history. I know she never chose the obvious show-stoppers from Broadway, but hey, a girl can dream?
Also, a female more vulnerable version of Rod Stewart's ballad "I don't wanna talk about it" would have been interesting.
Also, I think because Barbra is so fond of Guys and Dolls and has recorded several of its songs already, it would be great to hear her cut loose on "If I Were A Bell." Something really swinging, like Dinah Washington's version.
How about a Gershwin song book? Or a Sondheim album.. "SimplySondheim"
Another song I would like to hear Barbra sing is "Closest Thing To Crazy" by Kate Melua. Barbra always has to feel a song, I am sure if she listened to this she would want to sing it, it has Barbra written all over it. I'm not too sure if many people in th US have heard this song. It was a big hit in the UK several years ago. It doesn't have huge backing mainly guitar and violin, this could be replaced by piano etc. more in keeping with Barbra's new style and approach to music.
some songs that were famous in the 80's ... like time after time,
”Look To The Rainbow” from Finian's Rainbow AND “I’ve Dreamed A Dream” from Les Misérables would be a most certain dream come through for me - and even though Barbra did record "On My Own" earlier, and not being too happy about that recording, I really think she should give it a second try. It’s a perfect song … that she – more than anyone – can give the right interpretation … uhm
I do agree with one of the other posters, Barbra could sing the ABC's or the phone book and I would buy it...........I don't know if this sounds wierd to anyone but I always kind of thought she would sound good singing "Hit The Road Jack" by Ray Charles..I know she dueted with him on Crying Time and it was one her most soulful recordings and I could just see her in concert getting into this character saying Hit The Road Jack and don't you come back no more....I think there are a lot male vocal songs out there that if Barbra were to cover them they would blow us all away....There are so many to mention but top of my list is Hit the road jack....and I do agree about the Pet Shop Boys because they way they produced and wrote those songs for Liza was impeccable and I listen to that cd still to this day...Even if she did just 1 song with them I was a happy camper, no matter what she does, I am happy...Nickluvsbarbra....
I'd love to hear Barbra sing, My Way. Though a classic Sinatra Song, I think it fights her persona very well.
Janis Ian also has a lot of songs I'd love to hear Barbra sing (and I am NOT speaking of "At Seventeen"--it is a good song, but she has plenty of other, less well-known songs).
"Isn't It Romantic?"
"The Very Thought of You"
"Sabor A Mi"
I'd like to hear her sing Landslide by Fleetwood Mac it would have to be rearranged but I think it would sound really cool or You Raised Me Up sang by Andrea Bocelli....
It Only Takes a Moment, from Hello Dolly. That had to be one of the biggest disappointments for me...that her character didn't sing that song. It's seems like a natural for her.
My favorite Barbra songs are the softest most beautiful ones, like Simple Man.
So I'd love to hear her sing:
Azure, like Ella sang it on the Duke Ellington songbook
You Take My Breathe Away by Tuck and Patti
Go Way From My Window by J.J. Niles
Who Knows Where The Time Goes by Sandy Denny
For the heartbreak......"The Winner Takes It All".... Abba's most heart rending ballad. Sobsobgulpgasp
And for the showbiz.....
"The Show Must Go On", Freddie's swansong.
And "I am What I am" from La Cage Aux Folles.
What a fabulala thread thanks XX
i would like barbra to make a new christmas album and would love to hear her sing
winter wonderland
merry christmas darling which was recorded by the carpenters
the christmas waltz
it's the most wonderful time of the year
and others
There's one song from one the best european auteaurs, Serrat. It's called THOSE LITTLE THINGS. I know Barbra could do wonders with it in a jazzy way.

I like the suggestions I have seen so far, and would suggest perhaps she sing more songs by the Carpenters.
there are a whole bunch of songs i've always wanted Barbra to record
such as
my romance which was written by rogers and hart
time after time which was written by julie styne in 1947
because you loved me which was recorded by celine dion
it's magic which was recorded by Doris Day
GOOD ONES colormemichael !
My dearest, one-and-only Barbra,
If you ever record a sequel to The Movie Album, please include "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" and, if you dare, "Mona Lisa!"
I think she could do an outstanding album of Bert Bacharach's songs. The few Bacharach songs she did sing were definitive, in my opinion.
I don’t know if Barbra have read and have liked all these songs that we all have mentioned here, but I have enjoyed very much the listening all your suggested songs.
Now after “Love is the Answer” I’m more convinced that never that Barbra could sing any kind of music…
And I want share with you this video that I had received this week, showing how a bride surprises to her bridegroom singing the song “Quiereme” in a religious ceremony celebrated in the “barrio de Triana” of Sevilla this same summer. I hope some of you, would find it as lovely as I do.

Nice day
Ana
Thank you for sharing Ana, that was lovely, I do not understand the language but it sure did bring tears to my eyes.
Nancy
Nancy I'm glad you like it.
Reading the comments below the video I I've learned that Vanesa, the bride, usually sings in the chorus of "La Esperanza de Triana", and she prepared and adapted this song of the spanish singer Nuria Fergó to surprise her boyfriend.
The guests and of course the bridegroom were thrilled because they didn't know anything and because it's not a usual practice.
On July 31, Vanesa hung up the video in youtube for the guests that couldn't assist to the ceremony but what she couldn't imagine is that it was going to be reproduced 1.160.945 times and that was going to receive thousand of congratulations.
I have done my best to traslate the song but I don't know if it will sound well because my english is not very good.
Good night
Ana
(chorus)
Eres para mí como agua clara,
You are for me how clear water
Que corre hacia mi corazón como un río
That runs towards my heart like a river
Que nace y que muere en el fondo del mar.
That born and that dies in the deep sea
Eres para mi como la luna, desnuda ante la noche.
You are for me like the moon, naked in the night
Guiando mis pasos hasta el amanecer.
Guiding my steps till dawn.
(bride)
Siempre para mi eres lo primero.
Always for me you are the first,
Aunque falte el dinero te quiero.
And although lacking the money I love you
Yo sin oro ni plata te espero hasta el atardecer.
without gold or silver I’ll wait you until the subset
Tú serás la calma y el consuelo y el aire que me falta algunas veces
You’ll be the calm and the consolation and the air that is missing sometimes
Agua del arroyo blanco
white creek water
Agua pa saciar mi sed.
water to quench my thirst
(chorus)
Quiéreme,
Love me,
Como se quiere por primera vez, quiéreme
As one love for first time, love me
Quiéreme
Love me,
Para los restos de la vida
For the remains of life
Y quiéreme
And love me
Como se que tu lo hacías
As I know you used to do
y quiéreme de noche, quiéreme de día
And love me at night, love me at day
quiéreme
Love me
Como se quiere por primera vez, quiéreme
As one love for first time, love me
quiéreme
Love me,
Para los restos de la vida
For the remains of life
Y quédate que mi alma es una buleria
And stay that my soul is a buleria. (fast flamenco rhythm)
(bride)
Susurraré mil veces al oído que jamás buscaré nada fuera de ti
I’ll whisper thousand times in the ear that never I’ll look out of you anything
Jamás besaré como te beso a ti, créeme.
Never I’ll kiss like I kiss to you, believe me
Créeme porque es tan fuerte lo que digo como lo es el sentimiento de un suspiro
Believe me because it is so strong what I say like the feeling of a sigh
Como el frío que siente mi piel,
as the cold that feel my skin
Sin abrigo, sin besos, sin sed.
Without coat, without kisses, without thirst
(the chorus repeats the second part)
Ana thank you so very much for taking the time to translate this beautiful song for me. I truly appreciate all your hard work.
Nancy
i would also love to hear her sing
i made it through the rain which was orignally recorded by Barry Manilow
I'll Never Love This Way Again which was recorded by Dionne Warwick
It's My Turn which was recorded by Diana Ross
Midnight Blue which was recorded by Melissa Manchester
Somebody - by Depeche Mode
Gosh, you folks have such great suggestions ! I've always loved how Barbra sang "Who Will Buy?" from OLIVER (on her 2nd album) but I'd still like to hear her sing "Where is Love ?" from that same show. It may have been done by countless artists, but the beauty and simplicity of it would be well-served by Barbra's delivery of rich, warm and often wistful expressions. I also like the idea of her doing a 2nd MOVIE ALBUM, and on it, a few I'd suggest are from GOING MY WAY called "the Day after Forever" and "There's a Land of Beginning Again". I can imagine her performing the title song, too, with it's sweet melody and straight-forward message. Another idea, from the movie VICTOR/VICTORIA is "Crazy World". What a terrific song, I absolutely love the way it was done by Julie Andrews and thought to myself almost immediately "Barbra should definitely put this in her repertoire". I also want to suggest a song called "Love is the Saddest Thing (when it goes away" which I first heard back in the 70's on album by Esther Satterfield. Little did I know, it had been written in the 40's and had been recorded by Vic Damone ! Then there's this lovely song which brings back memories of my parents "What a Difference a Day Makes"...it was their favorite, and my Dad always signed his anniversary cards to Mom with that phrase. There are millions out there, I'm certain we'd love to hear Barbra sing, but one of the coolest things about her is that she introduces US to so many great songs. When I started listening at age 12, I'd never heard "Right as the Rain" or "Absent Minded Me". A musical door was open for me, and has remained so ever since ! In that vein, I can say to ALL of you WISHING for your favorite song to be performed by her, DREAMS DO COME TRUE ! Two of my childhood favorites were "I Believe" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" and yes, you guessed it, the 2 songs were put together by Barbra in the most stirring, remarkable arrangement for her 1998 album "Higher Ground". I had been waiting since 1964 and my prayer was finally answered ! Well, I'm getting a bit too wordy here but I had to share this with you !
Fondly, Fran from NJ
Hi, folks ! Although Maureen McGovern does a splendid version of 'Can you Read My Mind ' from SUPERMAN, I've always wondered how it would sound if Barbra sang it. She could add it to the long list of 'suggested' themes from films. I also happened to come upon this great song called 'Tender is the Night' from the film of the same name based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was being sung by the legendary Billy Eckstine, on my 'Singers and Swing' station. When I googled it, I also found it had been recorded Johnny Mathis and Tony Bennett. The lyric is fantastic, very direct and bittersweet. The melody is lush and lovely so it's easy to hear it sung by Barbra "in my head" ! Anyone else know this song, from 1962 ??
Fran from NJ
"A Whole New World" from Aladdin.
who knows sansone12
maybe Barbra will record a disney album
I heard a song the other day by Rodgers and Hart called "This Funny World" from the musical Betsy. This would be an amazing song for Barbra to sing. It has a beautiful melody and emotional lyrics, apparently it's a very famous song but I had never heard it!
Please sing Amazing Grace and my biggest dream comes true
Love, Christiane
I would love to hear Ms. Streisand sing, " It's Magic". One of my personal favorites. I feel that with her style, and her arrangements that it would indeed be magic. John Renner
I would love to her Streisand's version to Madonna's "Secret". Would definitely be interesting!
