Prince of Tides
I again watched Prince of Tides this AM on my day off instead of immediately going outside to work on the mountain landscaping. What a movie! The power Ms. Streisand brings to the movie always profoundly moves me. As the director, her acumen in selecting Nick Nolte as her leading man is unsurpassed. I hope all who view/viewed the movie appreciate Pat Conroy's story and the magnificience Ms. Streisand gave us. For those of you who may be struggling with family and personal relationships I suggest watching the movie again. It is one of the greatest of our century.

I absolutely agree with you, Prince of Tides is an excellent movie for those dealing with any kind of abuse.
I am a media psychologist and study the effects of film on behaviors and attitudes. Many people list Prince of Tides as a film that has helped them cope with childhood sexual abuse. I know not all psychologists agree with me because Dr. Lowenstein sleeps with her patient. They can't seem to get over that and unfortunately don't see the true value of the film.
This is my favorite. Anyone dealing with any life issue can relate to this movie. I remember Barbra stating that she added a part at the end. In this scene Tom is saying how he has learned to forgive his mother and his father for all that he has been through. You can not have true love without forgiveness. On Oprah's interview with Barbra, Nick Nolte commented that there were times when she would say cut during the making of the film because things were getting a little HOT.
Hello everyone, I am new here, just joined the site. The Prince of Tides has always been one of my favorite movies, I love Barbara Streisand, and Nick Notle's performance were spot on, it is one of those rare movies I can watch, and watch it again in one sitting. I was sexually abused as a child by an older boy, it went on for about 5 years. I was terrified to tell anyone. My Mother was so much like Lila Wingo in the Prince of Tides, it's spooky, with one exception, she physically abused all 6 of her children, we were never spanked, just beaten. I had 5 sisters, who left home as quickly as possibe, all marrying much too young. For some unknnown reason, my baby sister was singled out and despised by our Mother. I can't go into the gory details, it hurts too bad. Let me just say, she was treated very much like Sybil, only worse. The Prince of Tides has helped me this year to deal with the fact that I really couldn't do anything to save my sister, as I was just a child myself. I'm still having a great deal of problems with it, and I cry everytime Tom tells his story to Dr. Lowenstein. I'm very sorry for theh length of this post, and I felt today, if I could just tell someone. I'm so glad I found this place, I really am an avid fan of Ms. Streisand, she is the greatest!
This is Beetlescott again. I am almost finished with the book, The Prince of Tides, and, while I love reading it, I honestly believe I enjoyed the movie more! Ms Streisand did a great job on this movie.
I went and saw this movie at the theater when it first opened and took my mom and my then pregnant sister and we were all crying (the couch seen with Nick Nolte and Barbra is so moving) (and those flashback scenes).......
My sister likes some of Barbra's music and likes her movies but not the way that i do... I was surprised because after she saw the movie she decided to name her daughter, Savannah, which is Tom's Wingo's sister in the movie that tried to commit suicide but was saved at the end....

Babs name is spelled B-A-R-B-R-A. (: Just a head's up!
I love many of Barbara's movies from What' up Doc to Nuts. But why oh why did she have to destroy one of the greatest novels ever! They practically skip Luke. Collanwald was not the name of the prison that the rapist escaped from. And that film skipped an important part of the novel, and that is the actual story in the novel. The romance between Wingo and Lowenstein is only a small part of the novel. Does she work at cutting out the best parts of the novel? One of the best novels ever bar none and the film just sucked. Maybe people who are too lazy to read don't deserve great stories on the other hand
