Deep in the Night

Deep in the Night

I have always loved this offering from the SONGBIRD album of 1977/78 ! It's got a jazzy, bluesy sound and feel. I had always hoped she'd sing it LIVE with a more refined orchestration, an arrangement that better demonstrates her true ability to sing in that genre. When Barbra sings the lyric, you feel that pain of a love lost, including the lines "and I punch the pillow and think about you", it's very personal ! She then hits an incredibly high note near the end, holding it, then cascading downward, quite rich and resonant, then explodes into the BIG FINISH ! I've recently listened to this CD and it brought back some great memories of her recorded songs in the 70's. Dear Barbra, you're truly a renaissance woman ! More opinions on this are welcome. Thanks, Fran from NJ

I have always loved this song, too. "Read a book and I think about you. Put it down and I think about you." That last powerful note is just great, isn't it?
