Favourite Barbra Song and why?
This could be a hard one to choose as there are so many to choose from, but I would love to find out what your favourite song is sung by Barbra and the reason you think it is the best.

This sure is a tough question, jfk, but I think, for me, the answer is a song she recorded early on for the MY NAME IS BARBRA album, called "Why did I Choose You ?" I was struck by her rendition, warm yet intense at the same time, and always believed that if I were to marry, or meet my special someone (which I have), THAT would be the song I'd like played at my wedding. Unfortunately, it didn't happen as the band was not familiar with it...I was just TOO NERVOUS to sing it myself but my sweet husband of 27 years will attest to the fact that I've sung it around the house and even recorded it on a tape just for him. The lyrics are so incredible, "I saw the heart you hide so well...I saw a quiet man, who had a gentle way, a way that caught me, in its glowing spell..."..just gorgeous ! And the incredible finish, including an emotional high-note that SOARS " when I lost my heart, so many years ago, I lost it LOVINGLY AND WILLINGLY to you...if I had to choose again, I would still choose you". A perfect expression of unconditonal, enduring love. Perhaps if we make it to our 30th (ha), I'll have the guts to get up in front of friends and family to sing it. Still, I believe it's one of the BEST recordings she's EVER made, and choosing a song from Broadway's 'the Yearling' is keeping with her standards of quality material. At such an early age, for her to be that perceptive about her ART, I give her the most ULTIMATE compliment. This song touched me at a very young age, nearly 13, and it never left my soul. Have a great day ! Fran from NJ
I remember I was 5 years old when my mother took me to the pictures to see Barbra in Hello Dolly, as you were saying that at 13 Why did I choose you left a great impression on you, well when I saw Barbra come down that staircase singing Hello Dolly I was just transfixed, I'll never forget it, my mother says I drove her nuts singning the song for weeks after, I made my father and one of my aunts take me to see it again I love it.
Ye maybe people will disagree with my song choice and I'm not saying this is my favourite song, but it would be in my top 3, I just love it.
My all time favourite is "A Peice Of Sky" from Yentl just an amazing song with one of the best endings ever recorded, in my opinion.
My number 2 song by the way would be the duet she did with the great Judy Garland, Happy Days Are Hear Again/Get Happy
I would have to say my favorite Streisand song is from her 1964 album People... and the song is "Don't Like Goodbyes." It is one of the most painful and beautiful renditions of that song I have have heard. I remember Diahann Caroll was supposed to record it, but instead it went to...Pearl Bailey for the show "House of Flowers."
I am happy Barbra or as I like to call her "Streisational" recorded that song. It truly fills me with so much emotion, and thats why I love it. You feel every moment of that song.

hey everyone, until recently i was pretty sure that for me "the way we were", which was the first song i ever heard her sing, was the most beautiful song, but then I stumbled over the song "just because" on you tube and ever since i'm in love with it. i am too afraid to sing it myself too, because i think the song is so her that i would just ruin it.. but no matter how often i hear it, it always makes me think that you really can find true love.. and how it must feel. i'm sure she sings the words just for her husband and maybe that's why the song seems to be filled with love... but of course the other songs you named are beautiful to !!

There are so so many Barbra songs to choose from! But the one that always springs to my mind is Where You Lead. I think it is absolutely fantastic, I love turning it up really loud and listening to it on repeat. My favourite ballad, again the one that I immediately think of, would be The Way We Were. It always brings a tear to my eye, no matter how many times I hear it.
There's My Man, which seduced me oh so long ago. But A Piece of Sky from Yentl is larger than life. There is so much passion and charisma in this woman. She sings her soul and her spirit as if she, the song and the music are one. I can't imagine her ever not performing. She should have live concerts online. She's the only other entertainer other than the late Sinatra who defines the humanity and timelessness of the Great American Century. Streisand is forever.
Forgot "He Touched Me". Goosebumps!
I think is so hard to choose the only one song by Barbra. So i have two favorite song by her, there are love theme from "The Star Is Born"-evergreen and the way we were. In the first time when i listened to the evergreen, the lyrics burned inside me like a brand, it was very touching. The movie"The Way We were" was a nice movie to me, I like the story and the song, it always make me remember a lot of memories. Lastly, i need to thank you Barbra Streisand for making good song to us.
Your fan,
Andrew from Malaysia
I have to say that 'Gotta Move' is a song that has been a favorite childhood memory. When I was 10 and the rest of my friends were listening to the Beatles etc., I was in my room singing Streisand songs - 'Gotta Move', in particular stands out - We also used to frequent a pizza place in our neighborhood, where I would always play 'People' on the juke box - Yentl is the only movie I have paid to see twice! I have much admiration for all she has done and continues to do in her work toward maintaining and perpetuating the dignity and honesty of fundamental characteristics of our country and it's citizens.
mine would have to be the top four are....
1. prisoner (love theme from the eyes of laura mars)
2.evergreen
3.happy days are here again
4. woman in love
these might come off as some odd selections but i really feel they send a message and chills down ones spine...sometime the leser known are the best!
this is a tough topic!but it has made me really think about barbra's songs. i have a top 5 list that i return to all the time.
1. Smile
this is my favourite song as i've always thought the lyrics were so pertinent to my life because growing up, i found it hard not to feel sorry for myself sometimes especially as a teenager coping with a disability(which i've to say is not severe, so i should've been grateful, right?)well to me, at that time, it was a big deal!so this song helped me in a lot of ways.
2. Send In The Clowns
I just love Barbra's rendition of this song, especially her performance of it in the One Voice concert, it brings tears to my eyes every time i watch it!
3. Evergreen
This song is so beautiful, the music especially is just so soothing.
4. The Way We Were
Again, the combination of Barbra's voice, the Bergman's lyrics and Marvin Hamlisch's music brings a tear every time, it's such a wonderful song.
5. Down With Love (The Judy Garland Show Oct. 1963)
I love the way Barbra just lets go and has fun with this song, it took my breath away the first time i saw it, i remember thinking how can a 21 year old sound that wonderful?!
the first time I ever heard her voice was in 1979 on the Kacey Kacem top 40 radio show and it was "The Main Event/Fight" and it was #3. I remember thinking how could somebody sing like that. "The Main Event/Fight is what got me interested in every song, album, everything Barbra and to this day this song is still my favorite. I was 13 years old then and that was the first time I ever got goosebumps from a singing voice and she is the only one that still does that. It his her sheer vocal power in that song with all the long notes and the way the song it trying to catch up to her. It is amazing even to this day....
NICKLUVSBARBRA.....
My absolute favorite is "Lullaby for Myself," the last song on the "Streisand Superman" album. Don't know why, but I have always loved it.
Chip
I love the song "Don't Rain on my Parade!" how can you not? i don't know how i do it but i could listen to that song all day and love it every time! and i really love all the songs that were sung by Barbra on "My Name is Barbra." and i do really like the song "Down with Love" those songs are just so fun and i love them. and of course there are all her other trademark songs like "People", "Evergreen", and "The way we were" which everyone loves.

OMG, so many......we all know TWWW, and Evergreen are everyone's fav, but
Why do we have to choose just one? Not trying to be greedy, but here's a few: (lol)
#1) If I Could
#2) Ma Premiere Chanson vs You'll never know- duet with herself at 13
#3) Putting it Together
#4) If I loved you
#5) Where do you start?
#6) A Piece of Sky
#7) Why Let it go?
#8) What were we thinking?
#9) Cry me a River- early and later versions both
#10) Lover come back
Barbra's voice is an American National Treasure.....just like our Declaration of Independence. Somethng that just overwhelms you when your in it's presence...
Oh! I forgot:
"COME RAIN OR COME SHINE!"
Mine is "The Moon And I" which was written for Yentl but didn't make it into the film. It's just a studio practice recording with piano only, but so gorgeous. The lyrics are amazing and the melody so moving. I listen to almost nothing but Barbra and have probably 25 true favorites (including "Children Will Listen", "Evergreen", "Love In The Afternoon", etc. etc.) but "The Moon And I" is number one in my book!
It's either on YouTube or on her JFTR collection, FYI.
Blessings, Libby
ok, being greedy again, but you asked a hard thing!!!! (I never could follow the rules, or stay inside the lines, sorry!
That's why i'm always in trouble...)
but i'll say it real quick and stop!
"Eyes of Laura Mars!"
"Come Tomorrow" with Barry Gibb (their voices are awesome together-just sayin')
