A new duet album: with whom would you like to hear Barbra sing?

Let's say there would be a new duet album: with whom would you like to hear Barbra sing? (Hey, a girl can dream...?)

My suggestions would be...

Diana Krall
Lara Fabian (just listen to her "Love by grace"....Lord have mercy!)
Nathan Lane (listen to his vocals on "Till him" from The producers. Wow!)
Michael Bublé (as previously suggested on this forum by a member)
Adam Lambert
Mandy Patinkin (yes, a revival)
Hugh Jackman

All household names, I know. But let's face it, they are household names for a reason: pure, raw talent. God bless 'em.

Renee Fleming, but Renee must really obey Barbra's command smth rather difficult to be done since Fleming is also an enormous Diva. I think it would be a very difficult to be done but highly interesting collaboration. I imagine them singing a Billie Holliday classic, like "I ll be around" or "You've changed" from Barbra's favorite classic album Lady in Satin. I imagine Gerald Martin Moore writing some jazzy ornaments for Renee, some beautiful slow cadenza to high B5 that Renee can sing while Barbra is doing her thing that could have been re-written by Stephen Sondheim. Such a dream Smiling

Great suggestion!

Those two ladies could truly match each other vocally as well as with their presence!

It would also be a nice way to pay tribute to the classical compositions and arias that Barbra has performed and/or recorded over the years.

Michael Buble -I think that their voices would sooooo compliment each other x here's hoping!!

And wouldn't it be great if she recorded another duet CD together with different artists from all kind of genres, sort of like the duet albums that Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra recorded. They invited kd lang, Mary J Blige and Bono didn't they?

PS I just want to add to my comment (which hasn't yet been printed above) that among the 'younger artists' I can envision singing with Barbra are Norah Jones and of course, Beyonce. You'll note that Beyonce sang a lovely rendition of The Way We Were at the Kennedy Center Honors when Barbra received recognition in 2009. Beyonce has often said in interviews that she considers Barbra a "role model', a lady who has done things HER way throughout her career. Also, I absolutely love the duet with her Mother (both recorded separately then blended) in the " Just for the Record " Collection. Diana Kind had a sweet, high operatic voice and as they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree ! As for "Dianas", well, it would be a treat to hear Diana Krall sing with Barbra; she did such a wonderful job getting everything together for "Love is the Answer" ! The 2 ladies have prominenly different vocal styles so they'd compliment each other beautifully ! That's it for now, folks.

Hey, Gang, I don't know why my previous comment on the ideas for duets haven't yet been printed (maybe lost in cyberspace) but what I said was, wouldn't it be nice to hear Barbra sing with her sister Roslyn Kind ? She's terrific, have seen her on talk shows and I know she's worked Clubs in the past. Also, gals like Bette Midler, Liza Minelli, CHER, Diana Ross, Carole King, Carly Simon and the fabulous Melissa Manchester, the last 3 also being songwriters. These are all woman of that 'certain age' who lend depth and perception to their vocal expressions. And what about Linda Rondstadt (just came to mind). She's sung with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, hits some marvelous high notes, and has worked with Bette Midler on the Tribute Album to Rosemary Clooney. All these ladies have something to offer and combined, well, POW ! Additionally, it would be interesting to see just which songs Barbra and her Sis would choose to do together, maybe something about life they both experienced, both shared, or even THEIR favorite songs...anyway, if the other comment from March 24th shows up, well, you can ignore it (Or just realize what a wordy gal I am when it comes to Barbra !).
Fondly, Fran

Just for the record is one of my all time favourites, I wish she would expand on that collection now, twenty years later, and add another 4 or 6 discs...

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Andrea Bocelli !

Hanna, thanks for mentioning "Just for the Record" as a favorite. I love the songs "If I Close My Eyes" and "A Quiet Thing/There won't be Trumpets". Fabulous ! I also enjoyed hearing the song that WASN'T used in YENTL as previously planned, called "The Moon and I". Isn't it lovely ? So sweet, so natural...yes, it would be wonderful to add to that collection after almost 20 years. I wonder how many OTHER songs were left behind in the recording studio ? Barbra oftens mentions in her "liner notes" that a particular song was done a few years back, but perhaps she didn't like the arrangement so much, or for SOME reason, she didn't release it.
By the way, a Duet with HERSELF, as in"One Less Bell to Answer/A House is Not a Home" would be a particular joy to hear. What 2 songs would you like to hear her record in a similar way ? She "harmonizes" with herself on "a Love like Ours" in the song "It Must be You", and does some beautiful vocals, including background for herself on the newest Christmas CD, as she performs Schubert's "Ave Maria". It's just gorgeous ! Have a great night !

I think Barbra and Lady Gaga would be VERY interesting! Nobody expected a duet with Donna Summer and look how that turned out.

Barbra has said that she really likes the song "Jesus to a Child" by George Michael.
When she said it, it made me think that their voices would blend really well together.

My wishes for the new Album are: Michael Buble, Robbie Williams (Swing), Kathrin Jenkins, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion( (revival)!!!!
Anyway, I already know it will be great.
Love, Christiane

Rosyln Kind

Barbra's sister Ms.Kind and Judy Garland's daughter Liza,,, I know that Ms. Streisand recorded and performed with Ms.Garland many years ago, wow full circle
and it would be nice for her to sing with her sister even though they do sound so alike...why not at this time....

CELINE DION. ♥
Oh my god, Celine Dion.

And I think it would be kinda great for her to duet with Reba McEntire.
They both have a lot in common. Broadway, movies, TV, singers. Both are totally incredible too. Oh man. I would LOVE a Tell Him re-make with Celine though. I would just dieeee.

Agree with Newbie, always hoped for a duet with Roslyn.

A bossa nova melody with Paulo Szot!

Oddly enough, i agree with simonroddick. As opposite as people think that may be, i would imagine that duet being fantastic. Plus, lady gaga has a beautiful voice when she sings slower songs, i think if they did a slower, chill song, it would sound fantastic. And yeah, the Donna Summer blew up big time, it was great!

in the case of Gaga and Streisand, i think that woudl honestly be one hell of a good song. <3

LeAnn Rimes

Me and millions of Brazilian BS fans would be very happy and gratefull if our diva sing with a Brazilian singer. There are many at the BS vocal level.

To me, I would be satisfied with a duet performed by Barbra Streisand and Maria e Betânia singing "Brincar de Viver".

We have a dream: to listen to BS Portuguese performance.

Judging by the suggestions from you all - I think we can conclude that we would be delighted to hear Barbra sing with just about ANYONE, as long as she sings... Eye-wink

In no specific order:
Bette Midler
Michael Buble'
Carly Simon
Bono
Sting
Cyndi Lauper
Stevie Wonder
Queen Latifah
Lady Gaga
Patti LaBelle
Mary J. Blige
Mariah Carey
Manhattan Transfer
George Michael
Gladys Knight
Bernadette Peters

I'd love to see another song written for Barbra and Celine. David Foster did a magnificent job with "Tell Him". I bet he could have another one up his sleeve.

I saw something on YouTube with Barbra, Celine, Carol King and someone else doing 'You've Got a Friend'. That was spectacular. Liza would be another great possibility. And the Roslyn Kind is a great idea. I wonder what you have to say about that suggestion, Ms Streisand?

Barbra has talent beyond any artist in todays world. I've followed Babs since the early 1960's. With all the music themes and styles, there is no good musical talent in todays everyday world.
I would like to see Barbra start a new idea with creating an "America Got Talent" type search for new talent in the style she has established over the decades.
With her money and talent/contacts wouldn't it be nice to "spread the music" to the next generations. I am sick of the music of today. When I turn on the radio, TV the music is terrible. If someone does not address this decline in musical art...it will be lost forever.
Come on Barbra....let's try to have some new talent equal to you and bring back those good old stand-by songs.
There is good talent out there....just to be found. Remember?
Be the new Phyllis Diller.
You're not gonna be here for ever..and we need this music to continue.
Think about it....you can do it. Dave Balmer

No one.

I like Barbra by herself on her albums.

I like Sting, somebody mentioned Diana Ross, I would add Tina Turner, then definitely some Latin American singers, this music is great.
Once I have suggested Mario Frangoulis a Greek singer, Andrea Bocelli of course, Joni Mitchel, then French chanson - and sadly this is not possible but it came to my mind first - Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel!

Ok, there is one duet that I do absolutely love, that I CANNOT get out of my head.
It is the Barbra/Josh Grobin "All I know of Love" from the "Duets" album.

I swear, that song effects me like no other. That song makes me cry, the music and words are so beautiful- and the way their voices mesh.
But, I can't think of who else I would like her to sing with- cause I don't usually like duets cause I keep seeing the singers in my head when I hear it, and I don't want to visualize some of those folks.

Michael Buble'
Lady Gaga,
Josh Groban
Elton John
Bette Midler
Liza Minnelli
Rihanna
Sting

How about Sandi Patty's soaring high C's with Barbra's strength and beautiful style?
Others, how about Dionne Warwick, Andre Bocelli, Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, or what about Barbra and Natalie Cole? Wow, that would be great!

Oh, Andrea Bocelli or Dionne Warwick!
Great names!

Mary J Blige (think a soulful song)

I know these two seem like unlikely pairings but, could be interesting:
Neil Young (think Harvest Moon)

Willie Nelson (think Blue Eyes Cring in the Rain)

Roslyn Kind (for obvious reasons)

QOf course, would love to see live performance duets with Johnny Mathis, Neil Diamond, or Aretha Franklin

In the off, off, off chance that Barbra or her assistant reads the forum, I'll suggest it again: a bossa nova melody with Paulo Szot. "So Nice" ; "Wave" "One Note Samba" "Girl/Boy from Impanema" "Sabor a mi" "Meditation" "Delirio"

Barbra, can you hear me? Smiling

It would be amazing to hear Barbra duet with her sister the amazing Roslyn Kind.

Bette Midler would be great too

Roz Kind
Elton John
Carly Simon
Lady Gaga
Madonna
Michael Buble
Yo Yo Ma
Andrea Bocelli
Barbra

I respect Barbra's choices. She has stated that she would like to work with Beyonce', Seal and Sting. We all know that Barbra is going to sing what she wants to and with whom she wants to. She has made great choices in the past.

i think either of these singers would be great on a new deut album....

Bette Midler
Lady Gaga
Adele
Beyonce
Seal
Stevie Wonder
Alicia Keys
and maybe Jennifer Hudson

and oh how i wish Ms. Judy Garland was still around, i loved them singing together!!!

so we all know she is probably going to follow through with this new duet album, but when will we know if she is going to do another tour!!!? it's killing me, i have to know becuase i have some money saved for tickets and if she doesn't get the news out soon i'll be spending it. (i'll be spending it on her CD's) lol i need them all!

Nataline

Andy Williams and Barbra - Moonriver!

Everyone seems to have such great suggestions. Listening to "What Matters Most", I was stuck by the song, "Something New in My Life" since I first heard Johnny Mathis sing it on his tribute album to the Bergmans and Michel Legrand. I think that was the late 80's or early 90's. I said to myself that Barbra definitely should record THIS extraordinary song, the lyrics are exquisite, they SAY so much about a relationship...well...my prayers were answered, and she delivers a wonderfully hearfelt peformance, so intimate and personal, very beautiful. Anyway, the next time Barbra decides to sing this, I hope she asks Johnny Mathis to join her, maybe on a Duets CD, or maybe, if we're REALLY lucky, in her next LIVE CONCERT !! Their voices blend together in an awesome fashion !!
Have a great day everybody ! Love, Franny

Oh, how can I forget the soulful sound of KD Lang ? She's an amazing singer, has done well recording with Tony Bennett. She and Barbra would be a remarkable duo. Both have strong voices but can be warm, even mellow at times, depending on the material chosen and indeed, extemely expressive and rich...I believe Ms. Lang is one of the few singers out there today who can match notes with Barbra ! (besides Celine Dion, of course). It would be an awesome recording !!
Franny

Oh! I can't believe that I didn't think of this before: why didn't she record a duet with Diana Krall while they were working on their album? It would have been fantastic!

And how about a Melody Gardot-Barbra Streisand-combination? Hey, a girl can dream, right ...?
