The Oscar Presentation

The Oscar Presentation

It was wonderful to see Barbra again with the presentation last night. She was gorgeous and full of class as always. I really wish she could have been the first woman to receive the Best Director award at the Oscars. She certainly deserved it with Yentl and The Prince Of Tides. We have to realize though that she made it possible for a woman to win finally by her blazing the trail starting almost 30 years ago.
Barbra, you have done so much good in your life fearlessly, but unfortunately many times you don't get the credit that you deserve. Thank you for your work and for the gracious way you go about it. You will always be to me one of the Best Directors ever!

I agree with every word you said. Well spoken!

Barbra's unending struggle for independence, quality (and Equality) in showbiz over the past five (!) decades has surely opened the doors for so many women who now can experience the fruits of her labours.

I only believe that her directorial performances have been emulated by all the female directors since Prince of Tides. The world was well aware of deserving the "win", however, not winning puts her up there with Steven Spielberg when he wasn't recognized for Empire of the Sun. True masters of their craft.....

I am so happy (and imagine Barbra was thrilled) to see her present to the very first woman.I liked Barbra's outfit. The fashion police never, ever touch her. By the way, how many of you saw the movie that the woman directed and that won Best Picture? I rented the DVD, and it was amazing. I have never, ever seen a movie quite like that. She was deserving, and I'm so glad she won!

To this day, I will NEVER get over the fact Barbra wasn't even nominated for her performance in "Nuts". In my opinion (and many others I believe too), the critics simply couldn't separate "Barbra Streisand the greatest STAR" from "Barbra Streisand the actress". It colored their reviews, caused bad press in general and of course affected the turnout at theaters. However, TONS of people have come out since lauding it as one of Barbra's greatest performances ever and her BEST dramatic performance ever. "Nuts" is a true gem of a film with a fabulous cast, a compelling storyline and dramatic scenes, one right after the other.

If you've read much on Barbra (I have in the recent past), she has always had a hard time in Hollywood, from the very first big Hollywood party she attended when people thought she was rude and aloof (she was in awe of the great stars she was surrounded by and was incredibly shy). She is so NOT a Hollywood type and some people have been offended by her. Especially when they assume she has snubbed them when she's simply been shy. She's been very open about the fact that she is painfully shy and really doesn't like premieres and parties, etc. or any large group of people. Unfortunately in Hollywood, if you're not a person who kisses the right a** when appropriate, you may upset the wrong person/people when it comes to being nominated for hmmm..well, ANY award.

Additionally, what a lot of people don't know (I only know of it because I work in the entertainment industry) is how many MILLIONS of dollars are spent campaigning for the nominations of films, actors, songs, etc. when it comes to the major awards (especially the Oscars). Something tells me Barbra may have always been above that. She seems to be the type of person who believes in and stands by her art for exactly what it is and what she has created it to be. I think her stance may be..."take ot or leave it" and "either they'll like it or they won't" when it comes to Hollywood, the Academy, etc.. I just can't see her ever doing that type of "Hollywood" thing (campaigning and in essence "kissing a**"). I say BRAVO to her if that's the case!

Finally, if you haven't seen "Nuts", go get it! Amazing film!

Blessings, Libby
