Love is the Answer
I am a Streisand fan from way back. The first time I heard her voice was listening to a recording of Funny Girl and I was captivated by the power of her voice and her ability to hold seemingly endless notes. From that point forward, each movie, each recording just whetted my appetite for more. And so it is with great pleasure that I can say that listening to her new album, I am still amazed and astonished how her artistry and emotional resonance are still shining bright with her trademark nuances and emotional delivery, I get drawn in more with each listening. I've had the pleasure of seeing her in person at various events starting with the premiere for "A Star Is Born" in Westwood where streets were blocked off to accommodate the huge throngs of people as celebrities arrived one after another. "Evergreen" was being played on a loop piped out into the streets and bubbles were coming from the theater, I kid you not. For a Streisand fan, it was an out of body experience. And then, just about as everyone had entered the theater, she arrived. It's something I'll never forget.

I can say just one thing..."how lucky can you get?!"
I'm so happy Barbra decided to record these "historically" pertinent songs. She's so relaxed with the material, the words and music just flow through her and right into your heart ! "Make Someone Happy" really made a distinct impression, esp. with the way things SEEM to be in today's world. It's not about money, or status, because those things are fleeting. The most important and enduring thing IS Love, betweeen "significant others", friends, neighbors, for our children, for our parents; without it, we simply can't survive. It all goes back to "people needing people" which Barbra has so eloquently expressed in many renditions of that song. I was struck at how personal all these choices have been for Barbra. Oh, I absolutely adore the arrangement of "Gentle Rain" and can't wait to own the DVD to "watch" her perform, in particular, "If You go Away"...I happen to see a clip on the Internet some months ago of Barbra singing it on a British talk-show, and watching her, you see the deep expression in her eyes, the way she moves her hands, the very unique style that is all hers, regardless of what she's singing. We folks are the "luckiest people in the world" to have such a remarkable talent, a true artist, in our lives. Thanks for letting me express myself in this Forum. I'm happy to share my impressions with other folks who TRULY understand what it means to be an admirer of this fabulous woman who has brought so much joy into the world !

I just have to say I'm totally addicted to this album. It's been in my car's CD player for a few weeks now, and It has served to soothe and calm me when stuck in the craziness of traffic ! Her warm, rich tonal quality, the sense of closeness I feel with Barbra's every phrase, can't be topped by anything else I have in my collection ! It brings me more joy than I could EVER have imagined. There are very few additional words I can use to describe this lovely set of songs except to say they all continue to be in my head and in my heart when I go to bed at night, and soon awaken in the "wee small hours of the morning"...Brava, Barbra ! With continued fondness & admiration, Fran from Trenton, NJ
Hi, I want to join the admirers of "Love is the answer". As it usually happens with me, the new albums are the preferred ones for some time, so it is so with this rich feast for music lovers. I suppose lots of people have the same favourite songs so I won´t be original when I mention "If You go Away" and "Make Someone happy". I also like the old song "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most".
I want to express big THANK YOU to Barbra for her choice of songs and music style,
they are in such a splendid harmony - the music and lyrics and her performance.
I´ve had one special idea lately. I like Greek music and one of my favourites is Mario Frangoulis. I have just found his version of "Ne Me Quitte Pas" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7SbseswnAM&feature=related) and it persuaded me that to hear him sing in duet with Barbra would be a dream experience.
What do you think?
