In what ways has Barbra inspired you?

Barbra Streisand is an inspiration to millions of adoring fans from around the world, but I'd like to know how this amazing woman has inspired you personally. Barbra has inspired me in many ways:
1.Barbra has taught me the meaning of the word: determination. I am a 16 year old aspiring to be a concert pianist. It is very hard work and I have to practice hours every day. I also have to take it in stride when I don't get first place in a big competition. As a teenager Barbra experienced similar setbacks. She was told by many people that she would never make it, that she wasn't good enough, but she NEVER gave up! She perservered! She saw herself as a star and her determination and hard work made her one! So thank you Barbra for teaching me to perservere!
2. Ms. Streisand has also inspired me to dream! She inspired me to dream big dreams, and to invision myself as a Star.
3. Finally, she inspired me not to change my appearance. As a child and teenager, people called her ugly, but Barbra never tried to change herself. She accepted herself for the way she was. I don't have to look like a Hollywood actress to be beautiful! So thank you Barbra for helping me see that!!

Thank you so much Barbra for inspiring me in so many ways!!!

Love,
Noel

HI myfairlady660. it's a lovely text you've written and I have to agree. she inspired me too . i wanted to become actress, as long as I can remenber and when I first saw her it made me believe in that dream too. by the way i'm 16 too, and thanks to barbra i was no longer afraid of persuing my passion and I now take lessons too.
you're right: it takes a lot of patience and a strong will to never give up even when other people discourage you or you fail. the way i feel abput myself has totally changed since i knew of her. i personally find her very beautiful but i don't think that she has ever really accepted that. unlike you say i think she is until this day struggling with the whole self-love thing. and I am too. if you really managed to accept youself for the way you are : congratulations - i guess you are far ahead of me and many others! but sometimes i think that this is a very difficult lesson in life and we may never learn it. because sometimes things seem so easy, fair and beautiful but at other times it's quite the opposite--
if you ever read this... could you tell me more about how EXACTLY you manage to keep your balance and think positive? i think i really need some help there!
i don't know how big your dream is, but mine's pretty big and i sure have a lot of people talking nasty behind my back... a little encouragement at times i think would really help.. when you feel sad: what do YOU do? because I'm afraid I'm handling things the wrong way.. shutting myself off from the outside world... i become very cold and distant and people say even aggressive... but I don't want that... so ... of you could answer... what helps you to believe?

Scrat- I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply! My computer was messed up! It is great to hear about another girl my age who is also pursuing her dreams!!
I definitely am not always confident in myself!! Especially when I practice 4 hours every day and then lose the competition! Or when a judge makes a stupid descision! It is easy to get depressed and want to give up! Here are some ways that I stay positive:

1. I have Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. He constantly encourages and strengthens me!
2. If I don't FEEL confident I FAKE it. If you do this often enough, the confidence becomes genuine!
3.I keep pictures of Barbra and posters with inspirational quotes taped all over my piano.
4. I made a list of my goals, and keep it where I always see it. If you decide to make a list, make sure and aim high!

That's what I try to do! I am by no means perfect and often I feel small and inferior to everyone! But I stick up my chin and remember Barbra!
I hope this helps! Remember "nothing is impossible"! Don't ever give up!!! I will keep you in my prayers!

Noel

She has inspired me to sing fabulous songs and create show about her that I will be performing at the worlds largest arts festival - 'Edinburgh Festival Fringe' here in the UK in 20 days time. Yes I open the show in 20 days and am so looking forward to it. I will be wearing the 2 dresses owned by Barbra Streisand which I bought in her auction last year. I hope many of her fans will come along to see the show, those who love her renditions of music theatre songs and to hear her story as I see it. Wish me luck and if you are in Edinburgh from 22 - 30 AUgust - come and see the show and say hi! I would love to meet more fans who are inspired by her and her work!
