"Release Me" Debuts at #7!
BARBRA STREISAND'S "RELEASE ME" HITS THE CHARTS AT #7, HER 32ND TOP TEN ALBUM BOLSTERING HER POSITION AS THE THIRD HIGHEST ACHIEVING ARTIST EVER IN THAT MAJOR STAT. LAST HALF DOZEN NEW STREISAND ALBUMS HAVE CHARTED IN TOP TEN.
Barbra Streisand's new Columbia Records album, "Release Me," debuted at #7 this week. It becomes her 32nd album and sixth in a row to rank in the top ten. The only artists with more in that category are The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra.
A year ago, when her album "What Matters Most" arrived on the charts at #4, Streisand eased past The Beatles with whom she had been tied for third place with 30. "Release Me" is comprised of eleven recordings, dating back as far as 1967, which were not included on the albums for which they had been intended. They've all been stored in her vault until now. Over the past year, the artist painstakingly selected recordings to create "Release Me".
Highlights of "Release Me," her latest top ten winner, include: "Didn't We" written by Jimmy Webb - recorded in 1970 for an unreleased album project titled The Singer; the standard "Willow Weep For Me" - an unreleased track recorded in 1967 for Simply Streisand, arranged by Ray Ellis . noted for his legendary work with Billie Holiday; A striking version of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going Rain Today," with Barbra on vocals and Newman on piano - from the 1971 Stoney End sessions; an unreleased studio version of "With One More Look At You" from A Star Is Born; Two tracks from the unreleased sequel to the acclaimed The Broadway Album, titled Back To Broadway - "Home" (from The Wiz) and "How Are Things In Glocca Morra ? / Heather On The Hill" (from Finian's Rainbow / Brigadoon).
The complete track listing for Release Me features: Being Good Isn't Good Enough (from Hallelujah, Baby!), Didn't We, Willow Weep For Me, Try To Win A Friend, I Think It's Going To Rain Today, With One More Look At You (from A Star Is Born,) Lost In Wonderland, How Are Things In Glocca Morra? / Heather On The Hill (from Finian's Rainbow / Brigadoon,) Mother And Child, If It's Meant To Be, Home (from The Wiz).

Barbra's presence and voice is a most moving experience. Barbra is a rare gift to humanity. But I admit I am selfish. I am Jewish and her "Papa", "Avinu Malkeinu" are divine. We have lost two other Jewish treasures: Ofra Haza and Debbie Friedman. I would only hope and pray that Barbra would step forth again grace us with more of our heritage and soul as only she can do.

Re: "Release Me" Debuts at #7!
I've been a fan from day one, my father (Papa) as well. I have every vinyl, CD, DVD, and book you've ever done! Sadly he passed five years ago, his dream, as well as mine was to see Barbra in concert. Fast forward to September of this year when the new tour was announced. I called my daughter Rachel who lives in Chicago and asked her if I got two tickets would she go with me in memory of Papa? I could NOT get tickets even though I belonged and got the pre-entry ticket code. Two weeks later for my Birthday, her card arrived in the mail, it read: "Merry Birthday and Happy Christmas Mom. You can scratch this off your bucket list." and enclosed were TWO tickets for the Chicago Tour date of October 26th. I was shaking, crying and my breath was sucked from me! I pray I don't have a stroke before this dream comes true, nothing but pure excitement. Thank you Barbra and will see you in Chicago!

I really have no idea how you do it? I am a ordinary, down to earth woman, but when it comes to you I change totally. It is like your song"it must be you",this song describes how you touch me.I was in Brooklyn with my two children Yentl and Raoul ,both nights and the whole show ,from the first to the last second was heavenly. The duet with your son.Jason alone and on the end"glocca morra",Breathtaking! I am now at home going through my facebook,to catch all the emotions(youtube, posts from other BJ fans).and here again ,it is like christmas time your album"release me",hit number 7.I am so endless happy for you,I wish you break more rules and close the second round with an Oscar for Gypsy and much more.you really deserve only the best. and I am thinking to see again ,maybe LA,because I dont want to touch ground. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING WHAT YOU GIVE TO US!
