Dear Barbra,
I love you immensely... however, you are far too old to still be singing "evergreen" it is not a good song for you. You can't hit the notes and you're far too raspy and breathy now. Instead, go for nostalgia, sing "the way we were"... it will be more poignant
and meaningful AND easier for you to sing. Again, I love you dearly, but I am thankful that the song was cut from Oprah's show... it's kind of embarrassing.
You sounded very good on "Make Someone Happy". And for my last 2 cents...
don't "talk" during your songs... it interrupts the mood and makes you seem silly.
"Smile" was deplorable when the photos of your DOG were put up on screen back in 2003... and made what 'could' have been a memorable performace into one of the cheesiest, schmaltziest bits on tv. Everytime you talk during a song, or preach or whatever... you RUIN it. So STOP.

Loved your interview on Oprah yesterday, like many others I feel the whole hour could have been yours. Your song "Evergreen" is right up there tied with "People" as my absolute favorites. Your voice is amazingly beautiful as always. As a native New Yorker, all the best at the "Village" tomorrow.

I am from China. May not be the youngest fan, but certainly I am one of your newest fans. I received a DVD gift from a friend this January. It was "The Way We Were" I fell in love with the movie and the song immediately.Then I went onto the internet to search and almost watched all your movies and interviews. Like others, I love your voice and the way you want everything to be perfect. I just found out that you would be on the stage of Village Vanguard on Saturday. It was too late.I am now in NYC, I wish I could be there.Anyway, just want to tell you that you looked great on Oprah show today.

As I sat, mesmerized with tears in my eyes, watching you sing live on Oprah's show today, I wondered why I always cry when I see you sing. I spent a lot of time thinking about it, and thought I knew, but, the New York Times article put it in words: She "sings as if she is speaking to you." There are so VERY few performers who offer that quality. I was fortunate to see Sammy Davis, Jr once. He was one of the only artists I have seen live who I felt was performing "just" for me! Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to see you in person (although I tried to win the Cutest Pet contest), and doubt that I ever will. But, through the years of your career, you have produced music and films that spoke to me. It doesn't make one difference to me that there is a change in your voice, or that a piece is or is not "perfect", or the production accompanying it, or even that you "forgot the words". Music is a language! There are so very few people who are able to interpret that language. Barbra Streisand can and does!! Ms Streisand, thank you so much for "speaking to" me! In a velvet, interpretive voice that will never, ever be duplicated!

I know you don't like this type of compliment, but every time I hear you sing as I did today on "Oprah" it brings me back to 1969. My spine was fused in a major surgical procedure to correct scoliosis from polio I contracted as a toddler in 1952. Complications arose and I was hours away from losing my life at 18 years old. My mother brought my Streisand records to the hospital and played them around the clock. Obviously, I survived. I will always believe that the power and beauty of your voice saved my life.
