MARCH 21, 2012, 11:36 am
Surprising, but true: More women now die of heart disease than men, yet cardiovascular research has long focused on men. Pioneering doctor C. Noel Bairey Merz shares what we know and don't know about women's heart health -- including the remarkably different symptoms women present during a heart attack (and why they're often missed).

Congratulations to Dr. Merz and to Barbra for focusing on this very important issue for women. As a young women of 31, I was told after having an EKG by Canadian doctors that I had recently suffered a mild myocardial infarction and was soon diagnosed witha severe thyroid problem. When I returned to the States, the doctors here said that it had to have been a misdiagnosis because as a women I was too young to have had a heart attack no matter how mild. Luckily, I remained on the prescribed routine from Canada and now at 66 I am very lucky. I found this presentation very informative and eye opening. Please keep getting the word out so more women heed the warning despite the male stereotyping!
