Re: The Huffington Post reviews Release Me
I purchased the vinyl album with the pretense of getting a new turntable as there is no way I would be able to wait until October 9th. It arrived on Tuesday and I was lucky enough that my Sister's Husband still has a complete state of the art stereo system. I just arrived home about an hour ago after listening to the vinyl version and reading all the notes on each song. . I must say, the whole project from concept to packaging to every attention to detail is amazing.
I was spellbound from the first song- "Being Good Isn't Good Enough" to the amazing finale of "Home." The album is an amazing journey of Barbra's amazing talent, taste and connection with music. I loved every song yet some just sent me into awe that someone could have this much talent and know what to do with it.
I could go through each song individually, yet I will just sum it up as an amazing journey of Barbra's singing and treatment of each song as a true actress who sings. An amazing example was: "Mother and Child" I loved that duet so much. I loved how Barbra starts singing as the Mother then her voice changes when she sings as a child. Then when they sing together it was just incredible. I loved the arrangement and the lyric and Barbra's rendition of the song. Another standout was "Lost in Wonderland." I loved the style of the music and the way Barbra starts off fast and the rhythm and cord changes. Each song topped itself.
The Broadway songs were simply stellar. I loved every one so much I could listen for hours to each one alone. I cannot choose a favorite as they all touch me in a different way.
The whole album is a true culmination of Barbra's taste and artistry from 1967's "Willow Weep for me," to the best rendition of "Didn't we." :By the end of the first listen I was in heaven and played multiple times. I was able to make a cassette version to get me through until the CD arrives since I cannot go to my Sister's everyday.
I am so glad you chose these songs and look so forward to volumes 2 and beyond. I hope you release "home" as a single and I guarantee you it will go to the top 10 on the Billboard hot 100. I know it will end up being one of your signature songs. Your rendition of "home" is the best I have ever heard ever. That alone is worth the album.
What a great way to start off the New Year with the sweet sounds of your amazing voice. It truly is going to be a sweet year. I have purchased many copies to give as gifts to friends and purchased every version for myself from the vinyl to the package on your site(that includes the poster) to the QVC CD to get the bonus video.
Bravo, Barbra you have topped yourself again. This album is sheer heaven and each song is a masterpiece and a revelation. I am lucky I saved my old walkman as I can listen to the tape until I get the CD on October 9, 12
This album is Barbra at her best from the first note to the last belting note of "home"
You make the world a better place every day. I am so excited for the concert, I hope you sing some of the songs from this new album. I look forward to all your future projects and know that you put your heart and soul into all you do and it shows.
Bravo Barbra!!!
Kind regards,
Jeffrey Freedman

This was a great review by Paul Katz. This album is stunning and clearly a must-have for Barbra fans, but really, any fan of contemporary American music. The span of this music (nearly 50 years) is staggering and represents not only Barbra's own personal musical journey, but that of American music, in general. I can't wait for volumes 2 & 3. Oh, to have a week (a month!) alone in that vault - truly a 'kid-in-a-candy-store' dream. Congrats to Barbra on another fabulous album, and a simply fantastic year. 70 never looked better.
