Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
BARBRA STREISAND'S FIRST BOOK, "MY PASSION FOR DESIGN,"
DEBUTS AT #2 ON NEW YORK TIMES "ADVICE, HOW-TO & MISCELLANEOUS LIST"
Barbra Streisand's first venture as an author and photographer, "My Passion For Design," has entered the New York Times bestseller book lists in its first week of publication, registering as Number Two on the Advice, How-To and Misc. list. It is a significant achievement in consideration of the fact that, at a price of $60, it is the most expensive book on the list, according to the volume's publisher, Viking, a member of the Penguin Group (USA) Inc.
The book explores the lifelong passion for design which has motivated the iconic actress, singer, director, screenwriter, composer, producer, designer and now author and photographer, illustrated by the thirteen year process of her personal creation of a dream house barn on her estate in Malibu. A portion of the proceeds of this book will be donated to the Barbra Streisand Women's Cardiovascular Research and Education Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
When I first heard about the book, I thought it would make a nice coffee table book. I was so wrong! It is a book to read, marvel at, re-read and marvel at over and over. Thank you for allowing us into your home.
Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
I saw this book while shopping with my children and wanted to buy it. I wasn't shopping for myself, so I walked away. Much to my surprise, my son bought it and put it under the tree on Christmas morning. I was so thrilled and have already read every word and loved every picture. Your taste is exactly what I would choose for my own home. You hit home when you said that you lost a loved one early on.. a
nd we would do anything to get that person back, and we can't, but with objects theres a possibility. I love the way you love the old and the new, symmetry, roses, dolls, vintage, lace, tones and texture. I love teapots with creamers and sugar on a tray with candles. I know that we would be friends if we met. Thank you for making my Christmas a very merry one.. I feel like I was with you!

Dear Ms. Streisand:
Mazel tov on the success of "My Passion for Design." I received my copy and it is amazing! The work and time and effort you put into the house and gardens. The house is truly a masterpiece. You did, as always, an outstanding job. I have given it to everyone for Chanukah and they love it.
Your eye for detail and passion come through on every page of the book. How did you come up with such a brilliant idea of turning the basement into a street of shops. Pure genius. I know you said you got the idea from a Museum in Delaware yet you really went all out. I love how you saw the staircase on the lawn and had it removed and put in you own pathway, which is beautiful, and kept your hill as well.
I hope the books hit's #1 for you as you deserve it. I think it is wonderful that you are donating some of the book proceeds to your research project on Women's research at Cedars-Sinai. The work you do is just incredible. I don't know why you don't want to live in the new house full time? I love all the houses and the grounds. I also saw your photo shoot in Harper's Bazaar; you look great.
As I always say: Keep being the best at all you do and continued success on your future endeavors. I am looking forward to seeing you in the new "Fockers" movie. I hope your next film will be a big Musical or you Direct a film again. Just watched "Hello, Dolly" last night with some friends. We were sitting around afterward and racking our brains of anyone who could play the part today with our new crop of actors and we could not come up with one name. You are the last of the bigger than life stars. I don't know why you don't love "Hello, Dolly?" Your performance was electric and alive everytime you were on the screen you lit it up. I love the opening number your timing is superb. I just love the whole film. It flies by and you keep it going at a fast pace. You should really watch it again to see how great your performance is.
I wish you continued success in all you do and love the new book. What is your next project? Well, I know what ever you decide it will be of high standards and something interesting. Would you believe it is over a year later and I still listen to "Love is the Answer" every day the album is a masterpiece. I was shocked that it did not get more nominations from the Grammy Association. It is hands down the best CD of the year.
Again, Mazel Tov on your success on "My Passion for Design." You are so talented and detail orientated I love it so much. You always give your all to what ever project your working on and it shows.
I am surprised you have not made a statement about Helen Thomas' latest anti-semetic statements this past week at a speaking convention in Dearborn, MI. She is a true anti-semite and what was most frightening to me was not her statement yet all the posts that people sent in. They were filled with Anti-Semetic remarks. I find it very sad that not much has changed for Jews since World War Two. It is always bubbling under the surface. Maybe, if you made a comment it would help people from being so vitriolic towards Jews. Check out the article and the posts. You will be mortified as to what people had to say. It saddened me very much that this still goes on. It's like you once said. "The power of the printed word is amazing." As usual you are correct I will try and send you article if you have not seen yet. I feel comments from the public will sadden you. I wrote in a post condeming this anti-semetic rhetoric.
Best always,

jeanphi83,
What's with all the hate, negativity and frankly bad writing skills?? Stop the H8, and maybe good things will come to you. If you actually had really good seats at the 2006, and 2007 concerts, I doubt you'd be complaining about $60. As Barbra would say: "I don't buy it!"
CONGRATULATIONS BARBRA!!!!
Dear Barbra,
Considering the fact that I think you are THE most incredible person EVER, I was not surprised when you once again surpassed my greatest expectations and became an amazing best-selling author! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I knew that this book would be an absolute masterpiece from the second I heard about it, but after devouring every word and fawning over every magnificent picture, you even exceeded MY wildest dreams.
I picked the book up on the day it was released on my way home from work, and my insides melted the minute I held the book in my hands. I LITERALLY could not put it down. I flipped through the pages on the way home while I was driving, which was probably not the smartest thing to do, but I couldn’t help myself! I finally made it to my front door (miraculously in one piece) and spent the rest of the evening absolutely mesmerized by your every word. Just getting past the inside cover took me an hour. Seeing all of YOUR personal notes to yourself in YOUR handwriting and seeing your drawings and sketches was so cool! I examined each and every one of them over and over. When I was finally able to tear myself away from that and actually turn the page, it gave me chills to see your words, “My Passion for Design, A Private Tour”. The private tour part really got to me. I can now LITERALLY worship the ground you walk on!
From that point on, I was totally taken away and captivated by every glorious page. Reading your words and hearing your stories about each and every item in your home that means so much to you was just incredible to me. You just never cease to amaze me and your fascinating book brings out yet another dimension of your unending talent and brilliance. You are in a class all your own!
Needless to say, I could go on and on forever about how much I loved every detail of this “work of genius”. As I said, I literally can not stop reading it! I look forward to reading it over and over again, night after night, overcome with every emotion as I hold your beautiful long awaited masterpiece in my hands.
I will cherish this book forever Barbra! Thank you so much for writing it! I’ll be anxiously awaiting VOLUME TWO!!!!
With lots of LOVE, GRATITUDE, RESPECT and ADMIRATION,

Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
Dear jeanphi83,
You obviously don't get out too much (Barbra's concerts notwithstanding) because if you're paying $60 for the book (i.e. retail), you are paying too much. All the major bookstores have it discounted and there are a lot of other online discounts, coupons, etc.
"I think about all those people who can't afford it..." That's a bit heavy handed. Barbra was working on this book for years before the current recession. She had a committment to Viking Press to see it through and a deadline.
No one is forcing you to do anything and if you want to spend your money on other books, that's fine. "But me thinks you dost protest too much."
Give me a break. Have you made a donation to Cedars-Sinai? You can give any amount you want.
Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
It certainely is another achievement as all those we are used to get from Barbra Streisand.
Thanks, we appreciate someone who has talent.
We 're not so lousy and have taste so it seems..
At $60 the book, see what happens in a month or two.
.
Yet I can afford the byuing no doubt but I think of all the people who can't.
Anyway, I have decided not to get "My passion for design".
I got other books instead as the highly recommanded "L'Art dans les musées de New York" (The Art in NY museums, fab!!)
Despite, I'd rather spend my money for another airfare ticket, good seats for a concert at already some price.
(I attended LA Staples center in 2006 and Paris Bercy in 2007 already, Nice also that year was canceled but I had great seats)
...another some bucks, each time, for Madame.
After over some ++ 35 years of following the career, "enough is enough" comes to my mind more and more often..
Sad and confusing. Getting tired I guess
Wish good luck to the sales though so Streisand can add another peak # to her long list of achievements.

Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
I just finished reading "My Passion for Design" and I can honestly say that the book was phenomenal. I've been a fan of Barbra's for years and always hoped she would write a book, and now this comes out, it's like a dream come true. I am involved in theatre where I act, direct and produce. This book was great, for I learned many new things and realized I'm not the only one out there with a need for natural beauty. Thank you Barbra!
Re: Barbra's First Book Debuts on New York Times Book List.
Dear Barbra,
As a lover of interior design, your book will definitely be on my list for Santa. If it is as TASTEFUL as everything else you do, I'm sure I will DEVOUR IT!
Regards and Admiration
