Los Angeles, CA (February 22, 2012) - Enjoying a working relationship that has spanned nearly half a century, it was announced that Ms. Streisand is extending her recording contract with Columbia Records. Beginning with “The Barbra Streisand Album” in 1963 through the most recent, her 2012 Grammy nominated “What Matters Most”, Barbra Streisand sings the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman.” Columbia and Barbra have enjoyed arguably the most successful consecutive collaboration in the history of recorded music, which includes number one albums in five consecutive decades; a feat that is unequaled by any other recording artist.
“From the day Goddard Lieberson signed me almost 50 years ago, Columbia Records has been my recording home, and I am thrilled to continue that partnership for many years to come,” stated Streisand.
She has released 62 albums with the music label, including number one albums: “People,” “The Way We Were,” “A Star Is Born,” “Barbra Streisand’s Greatest Hits, Volume 2,” “Guilty,” “The Broadway Album,” “Back To Broadway,” “Higher Ground,” and “Love Is The Answer.” Streisand’s music in film has also garnered multiple Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
“There are stars and there are superstars, and there’s Barbra Streisand,” said Steve Barnett, Chairman and COO, Columbia Records. “Home to Barbra’s recordings since 1962, Columbia Records is proud to play a vital role in her extraordinary career. We’re looking forward to the next chapter in our long and fruitful relationship.”
It was also announced today that Columbia Records will release a 12 DVD set, giving unprecedented access into her professional and personal life. The DVD set will consist of never before seen footage directly from Barbra’s archives, as well as milestones from her illustrious career.
An artist of unparalleled accomplishments in multiple entertainment fields, Streisand has made her mark as an award winning actress of stage and screen, recording artist, concert performer, film director, producer, screenwriter, songwriter, philanthropist, designer, photographer, author and activist. Barbra Streisand is the only artist ever to receive an Oscar, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Directors Guild of America, Golden Globe, National Medal of Arts and Peabody Awards as well as France’s Legion d’Honneur and the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She is, in fact, the recipient of 2 Oscars, 5 Emmys, 10 Grammys, a Tony and 12 Golden Globes including the Cecil B. DeMille Award. She is also the first female film director to receive the Kennedy Center Honors. The three films she directed received 14 Oscar nominations.
Barbra Streisand is the only recording artist to have number one albums in five consecutive decades. Her 51 gold albums, 30 platinum and 18 multi-platinum each of which, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, exceeds all other female singers. Her most recent Grammy nominated album, “What Matters Most,” was her 31st to reach the Top Ten in the ratings charts, with which she passed The Beatles to become the third highest achiever in that significant statistic, exceeded only by the Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra. She is the only female among the top ten album-selling recording artists.
The Streisand Foundation has given millions of dollars in more than 2100 grants to over 700 non-profit organizations including her substantial underwriting of The Cedars-Sinai Barbra Streisand Women’s Cardiovascular Research and Education Program which addresses the leading cause of death among women in the United States, as well as men. Barbra Streisand was recently honored by the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors for her generous support and dedication to the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Heart Center.

Hello all
After a long period of time to think, I decided I want to express an important aspect of DVD's.
I am a long time Barbra Streisand fan (since 1971). I have enjoyed and still enjoying her musical journey. Since I am deaf, I have hearing aids and now one cochlear implant. I have enjoyed practicing to listen and memorize some songs including reading the lyrics of song with a hearing person (then on my own knowing the song).
I have enjoyed her movies as long as they provide captions (words on the screen). Since she has TV specials and concerts on DVD's, I was very DISAPPOINTED that most of them are NOT captioned. I refuse to purchase them and I even wrote to this email address and SONY/Columbia about the concerns of not providing captions. Again, I was disappointed that I have not heard one reply back!
Remember captions are cool for deaf, hard of hearing people of ALL ages, foreigners (learning english), children (learning to read and even spelling) and of course, noisy bars & resturants (providing captioning on their tv's).
Now back to the point, It sound exciting to see that 12-DVD's package is coming to view the wonderful journey of Barbra's career BUT will it be captioned??

It should also be noted that Barbra received an honory membership for Inside The Actors Studio when she was on the show in 2004.

The wisdom, the love, the pureness in the voice.
I don't cry everyday but something in this voice can simply let the tears roll.
Like a voice heaven sent to soote our souls and to bring us light.
What a luck my parents had "Guilty" at home, so I could start listening to Barbra even as a child.

Barbra, Mazel Tov on signing your new contract with Columbia records. I am so looking forward to the release of the 12 DVD box set. I have loved your artistry and talent since I am 5 years old; you make the world a better place to be in.
Right now, my Mom, is suffering with Dementia. Yet, she can still connect very well with music and movies. She spends much time listening to your CD's and singing along with you. She watches one of your DVD's each week, as well, with me. You bring her so much happiness; your an angel.
Thank you so much for bringing joy and happiness into all our lives from your Cd's to Movies, DVD's, Concerts, Television specials and now a book.
I am eagerly awaiting your new film, "Guilt Trip." I will be at the theater on opening day. I am so excited for you to start production on, "Gypsy." It is one of my all time favorite Musicals. I know you will give another performance of a lifetime. One of my, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, is named, "Gypsy." She's a real sweat heart

This is great news! Barbra and I share something in common! Not exactly, but I celebrate my 50th this year. A fan since the disco hits introduced me. (Those notes in 'Main Event'). It has been a wonderful experience collecting all the back catalogue and being capivated my Barbra's voice, attention to detail, quality and style ever since. Always taking us on journey to new music and places.
Was hoping for something special this year, but 12 DVD set! Wow! Thank you for that. In these days of digital downloading, there are still many of us out here that love to treat ourselves to the luxury of such special releases from Barbra .... not to mention just about anything really

First - thank you for your wonderfull consert at the O2 in London back in 2007. Then - I can only ad myself to the greets and joys over the re-signed Columbia-news and those totally faaaabulous 12 DVDs!!! How amazing is that!!! I'm so looking forward!

With reference to future releases, on YouTube there are several unrelased tracks floating around, such as your recordings of "Make Our Garden Grow", "The Heather on the Hill/How Are Things in Glocca Morra", and "It Doesn't Get Better Than This". Can we ever hope to have these released on a CD, such as a "Just For the Record Volume II" perhaps?

I agree with Zeff. The release of a 12 DVD box set is a magnificent idea, but your catalog, Barbra, needs to be remastered and released again.

Hope the 12 DVDs will also be released on blu ray. It will be easier and cheaper to ship to international fans like me.

My husband and I always look forward to something new that Barbara puts out. This is very exciting and we will be looking forward to it. We still replay the New Years DVD every New Years' because that was our first New Years that we were married. I am also a singer mostly just church now but as a girl growing up Barbara's style of singing was one that I tried to copy and I will never be able to do that but she gave me inspiration that I wouldn't have gotten from anyone else.

Congratulations for bringing back your music to us. Ever since from your first movie, music records and concert, i seldom missed them and i see to it that i can follow. Your are one of my favorite artist. I am from Cebu Philippines and at my age of 60 i am a computer suavy so that i will be updated regularly.

what about remastering the back up catalogue of miss streisand , i do work in the virgin megastore in paris , on the champs elysees , and i can assure that there are a lot of people that drop down the records , because of the so bad bad sound quality , they have
