"Barbra, Back Home In The Village" -- By Richard Hake

NEW YORK, NY September 30, 2009 —Barbra Streisand released her latest album this week. It’s called "Barbra: Love Is The Answer" and includes 13 jazz standards. But when you already have 62 albums in your repertoire, what could you possibly do to create a buzz? Streisand decided to go back to her roots to where it all began. Over the weekend she performed for some lucky lottery-winning fans at the Village Vanguard, a small jazz club in the West Village. That’s where in 1961 she entered an afternoon talent contest. WNYC’s Richard Hake joined the fans on Waverly Place who did not have tickets to get inside.

The radio broadcast includes interviews with Richard Jay-Alexander and Jay Landers. Click here to listen to the radio piece:

I had read a magazine that issued November edition about academic fund. Another area that's been hit hard by the recession is universities, as it's getting harder for students to fund college. Since trying to fund college isn't easy to begin with at state schools, private schools are a veritable nightmare – and it's leading many institutions to revise college admission policy, and with shrinking endowments there's less aid to go around. Some students are able to cope with costs with part time jobs, but if you $20,000 a semester in tuition, you'd have to work part time as a stock broker to dent the bills. Some students can still get personal loans to fund college, but it's getting harder – maybe some universities should cancel football programs – and put it towards real students.

I knew she had a new album out and was pleased to read that she would be the main guest at Jonathan Ross's Friday Night (BBC, England). I just saw a beautifull interview with as an extra miss Barbra performing live in the studio befor a studio audience. She had admitted not having sung since the recording of the album and had made her excuses: What you hear is what you get. Excuse acceptet, although not necessary at all. Thank you miss Streisand, for one hour of sublime television larded with your sense of humour and topped off with a masterclass of how to be a real singer and artist.

What a piece of sky is this album, I got all the feeling from the beginning, I got all what she meants with every word, I got her into my skin. Thank you Barbra, I´m sure someone in heaven is so happy for you. What can I add, well, God bless the child!
