"I adored her. She was a wondrous spirit who was great to me. Phyllis paved the way for all the female comedians who followed in her footsteps. The public knew her as a self-deprecating, wise-cracking, complainer. In fact, she was a lovely, smart and sensitive woman. I will always be grateful to her and I will cherish her memory forever. "

Entertainer exceeds $20 million goal for the cardiovascular program at Cedars-Sinai, now re-named the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center -- and donates $10 million herself.
Barbra Streisand has exceeded her goal of raising $20 million to boost a regenerative-medicine research fund and efforts to fight heart disease among women, a source close to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center tells The Hollywood Reporter.Read more »
"The new laws requiring US citizens to produce photo IDs at the poll are designed to deprive elderly and minority citizens of the precious right to cast their vote. These regressive laws are themselves the most dangerous voter fraud threatening American democracy." Barbra Streisand
I would like to direct you to two key non-partisan organizations which may be able to help you protect your own right to vote or who can direct you in how you can help protect the endangered rights of others. There is a great need for concerned activist assistance.Read more »

"I’m devastated. He was my dear friend. He’s been in my life ever since the first day I met him in 1963, when he was my rehearsal pianist for “Funny Girl.” He played at my wedding in 1998… and recently for me at a benefit for women’s heart disease. The world will remember Marvin for his brilliant musical accomplishments, from “A Chorus Line” to “The Way We Were,” and so many others, but when I think of him now, it was his brilliantly quick mind, his generosity, and delicious sense of humor that made him a delight to be around.Read more »
Barbra speaks at the closing ceremony of the Aspen Ideas Festival on Tuesday afternoon at the Aspen Institute.
Larry Kramer does not need me to publicize his beautiful play. It stands on its own. For the last time – I will answer his complaints, which rewrite history.
When I saw the play in 1985 I was very moved and immediately contacted Larry to acquire the rights. After going through several drafts with Larry, I hired another writer to develop a screenplay that was faithful to Larry’s play -- but adapting it to make it more cinematic. It was finished in 1995. Ralph Fiennes and Kenneth Branagh were interested in doing the version that I oversaw.Read more »

Today the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose above 14,270 - completely erasing its 54 percent loss between 2007 and 2009.
The stock market is basically back to where it was in 2000, while corporate earnings have doubled since then.
Yet the real median wage is now 8 percent below what it was in 2000, and unemployment remains sky-high.
Why is the stock market doing so well, while most Americans are doing so poorly? Four reasons:Read more »
WASHINGTON (AP) — The amount of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the air jumped dramatically in 2012, making it very unlikely that global warming can be limited to another 2 degrees as many global leaders have hoped, new federal figures show.
Scientists say the rise in CO2 reflects the world’s economy revving up and burning more fossil fuels, especially in China.Read more »

We know fracking isn't exactly the safest of practices. We've heard of its propensity to pollute our air and drinking water and thereby raise human health concerns. The media, however, isn't talking about the massive sinkholes pockmarking the nation, the radiation leaks, and other lesser known but no less earth-shattering effects of fracking.
Here are 5 other consequences of fracking you may not have heard of until now.

Imagine a plot to undermine the government of the United States, to destroy much of its capacity to do the public's business, and to sow distrust among the population.
Imagine further that the plotters infiltrate Congress and state governments, reshape their districts to give them disproportionate influence in Washington, and use the media to spread big lies about the government.
Finally, imagine they not only paralyze the government but are on the verge of dismantling pieces of it.Read more »

President Obama laid out a number of good ideas in his State of the Union address. Unfortunately, almost all of them would require spending money — and given Republican control of the House of Representatives, it’s hard to imagine that happening.
One major proposal, however, wouldn’t involve budget outlays: the president’s call for a rise in the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $9, with subsequent increases in line with inflation. The question we need to ask is: Would this be good policy? And the answer, perhaps surprisingly, is a clear yes.Read more »

Haahaa.... If my sweet wife and I can ever get out of bed
(somedays it's noon)... I have long planned to paper our vintage barn's
outhouse walls, with these excremental egested rag articles that are
void of even a sniff of truth. Of course, she has held me back with
her gift for perfect decor. But I still say my idea is more
authentic,... Haahaa. Right?

“The most truthful part of a newspaper is the advertisements”

Boy, Barbra must sell a lot of papers. That tabloid keeps re-telling the same lies.
I asked my wife if I could borrow her Truth Alert to respond to the latest tabloid nonsense, an outrageous story that I oppose her doing "Gypsy." These scandal sheet guys only print stuff that is the exact opposite of the truth. I'm already lined up to buy the first ticket for that film. Her youthful beauty will perfectly complement her singing and performance. But the point here is that tabloids only traffic in bad news, bad news that they have to maliciously make up in Barbra's case.Read more »
I was just made aware of a ridiculous story in one of those weekly rags. This is just to say that the story is untrue in every respect, just unmitigated, sloppy, and malicious invention. The madness of the constant inaccuracy of these publications is evidenced by the fact that in this recent story the main photo they use of "Jason" is not even Jason!
One of the tabloids is recycling a fabricated story which we truth-alerted as false in 2004.
It's ridiculous to dredge up a 7 year old story about having a polyp removed. It must be a slow news day.
I’ve endured Larry Kramer’s outbursts in the past, not wishing to dignify them with a response. But at a time when we are all pulling together to achieve such giant steps toward gay equality, it is anguishing to me to have my devotion to this cause so distorted. I think my efforts for the gay community and my immersion in securing its constitutional entitlement and other equitable rights is quite evident and a matter of record.Read more »
I was happy to hear recently that the Loew's Kings Theater in Brooklyn, New York will be undergoing renovations for a reopening in 2014 . It was one of those beautiful old movie palaces of the past. To clarify the ridiculous assertions relating to Barbra Streisand's participation in the new "We Are The World," the recording of which I attended with her, Barbra hit it on her first take, but then asked Patti Austin, who was producing the vocal session, if she could do a few more to see what else she might come up with. Patti thought the first take was perfect, and she thought the fourth one was more perfect. They stopped at "more perfect."

I discovered in a recent book of rather serious intent, and in which I was otherwise fairly treated, that the author chose to print some of the silliest fabricated tales about me even after acknowledging that they were “perhaps more apocryphal than true.” I was surprised that this author would not even bother to check his facts. I don’t care if someone doesn’t like my work or tells a story that is unflattering…as long as it’s the truth.Read more »

It’s the end of an era. It wasn't just her beauty or her stardom. It was her humanitarianism. She put a face on HIV/AIDS. She was funny. She was generous. She made her life count.
In presenting Public Counsel's William O. Douglas Award to President Clinton, Barbra Streisand made the following comments addressing the spirit of the award which is presented annually to the person "who best exemplifies the very highest ideals of human rights and equal justice for all." Public Counsel has for forty years provided free legal assistance to those who need it most. The award was presented March 18 in Beverly Hills at a dinner which raised over $2.6 million for the organization's pro bono efforts. Read more »

The work of the Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai is vital. Did you know that heart disease takes the lives of more women than all cancers combined? Can you imagine? I was so surprised when I learned this.

When asked if I would ever appear on ‘Glee,” I should have said, “You never know.” It was wrong to say, “Not if I can help it.”
