COMMENT RE: Supreme Court's Activism
The Court's most recent action just serves to remind us all that we cannot be passive. We cannot say, whew, thank God Obama got elected, now we can sit back. We're in good hands. On the contrary, we must rally behind President Obama and help him by electing those individuals who will fight for the people, not the corporations. Corporations have Dick Cheney. We need to be screaming and shouting and banging on doors over this outrageous Court decision. As Hillel said, "If not now, when?"
Supreme Court ruling and its impact
Ms. Streisand was absolutely right in her statement which I just read on Huffington Post. This ruling is wrong. What most of the American public cannot see is just exactly how impactful this ruling will be to our future. If the Tea Party people and the rest of the crowd who shouts "socialism" every time Mr. Obama speaks truly understood what just happened to them and to the rest of us, they should be outraged. Thank you, Ms. Streisand for your comments and your lifelong commitment to social activism. Keep up the good work. As a woman, self-employed and your age as well, I applaud your continued work and enthusiasm. Thank you again.
Corporations and Control
Incredibly clear commentary! thank you Barbara Streisand! One wonders how we got so far away from Democracy and into corporate mindset and indeed, mind control through this slick takeover! I wonder sometimes if I will end up in a Walmart working for ten dollars an hour while the Company makes staggering profits and be told I should be "grateful" for having a job. I live in Canada and have watched as systematically our jobs here have been "siphoned" to other countries leaving the Banks and Corporations pretty much dictating life. I do believe in people's integrity though, and hopefully grass roots movements can make a dent in this now crystallized Corporate dictatorship. That is, if enough people can remove themselves from mindless t.v. and get a little bit active. I wonder if enough people will wake up, demand reform and storm Congress. It's a difficult thing to undertake if you have lost your home, your job, self esteem. All of this is so totally unnecessary. We need a new paradigm! There are enough absolutely brillian thinkers, we just need to get rid of the Old World Congressional powers are probably lining their already gold filled pockets!

Great post, Barbra. Just read it on the Huffington Post. I couldn't have said it better. I thought the Constitution was written with citizens - and only citizens - in mind. I'm thrilled President Obama had the courage to confront the issue (and frankly, the Court) head on last night. Let's hope Congress moves quickly - with, dare we hope, bipartisan support - to rectify this travesty with strong legislation that restores the power of our democracy to where it belongs: the people.
