Barbra Streisand

I had never heard of Barbra until the day when I was 16 and walked into a movie called "A star is born" and she changed my life forever. Growing up in an alcoholic family, there was no emotion or feelings in our house and I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what it was. That day she touched me deeply and I felt emotions for the first time, and I knew what was missing. I cried with both joy and sorrow and I saw that movie at least 30 times. My greatest dream was seeing her live, a dream I thought impossible because she didn't sing in public anymore. But I had the privlege of being there in Las Vegas for her first public concert after 29 years and that was one of the very best days of my life. The thing about Barbra that seems to be overlooked is that she is a genuinely good person and I am so glad she found happiness with James Brolin. She gets bad press for being demanding and expressing her political views but there is nothing wrong with demanding perfection and social equality. She worked to elect both Clinton and Obama, helping to turn this great country around after the miserable Bush's! In short, she is so much more then just the best singer the world has ever known, she is an incredibly beautiful person who brings joy to millions of people every day. And yes, she is far superior to Judy, she sings better and would never stoop to drugs.

NYT Interview

Barbra, what a wonderful interview! I loved reading every word. How cool it would be to sit and talk to you about music (or anything else!). Your interview was very interesting. You certainly have a gift and I, for one, am so glad you've shared it with us. You'll probably never quite understand why people feel about you the way that they do. You have definitely inspired me when it comes to singing. I can't wait to hear the new CD when it arrives in my mailbox next week. I entered Sony's video contest, and, of course, didn't win. However, it was a fun couple of weeks just knowing there was actually a possibility of winning! All the best on your Village Vanguard performance tomorrow night! I'm sure it will be nothing short of brilliant!

RE: NEW YORK TIMES INTERVIEW

I have waited so long for an interviewer to ask about her singing. I thought that she just didn't want to discuss it. Now I see that she was just waiting for someone to ask. Thank you for having the insight to ask. Barbra will never be copied or replaced. If only the new singers out today had just 1/2 of her talent and sense of musical interpretation. I also have Barbra playing in my car constantly. After a day at work dealing with the public and wondering if there is any politeness left, I listen to Barbra and the days' problems just go away. I am 52, have consistently perfect blood pressure, and not on any pills as are others my age. My doctor has run all kinds of tests and found nothing to give me except Vitamin D. I told him I listen to and sing with Barbra every day and he said it must be the trick. So I recomemend Vitamin D and Singing with Barbra every day. Thank you Barbra for my good health. It is killing me though that I will not be at the Vanguard tomorrow night, but I was not that lucky. I know it will be an unforgetable memory.

Re: "A Fine Instrument, a Classic Instinct" - New York Times

This interview is one of Barbra's best, very insightful and chock full of info that die hard fans and followers have not heard or read before.

Hello Barbra

Great voice

New York Times Review

I love it when people that have spent their lives in music talk to Barbra about her vocals. They are always so amazed that she has never had any training and can't even read music. It is amazing when you think about it. She has an intense understanding for the lyrics and no matter what she asks of her voice it complies. I especially love it when she is referred to as a musical intrument. I've loved her since '65 and I'm just thankful I have such good taste!!

I think barbara should sing

I think barbara should sing Let there be peace on earth it was my Dad's favorite and I would love to hear her sing it!

The Instrument

Finally, someone who knows classical music actually talked to Ms. Streisand about technique. If I sat down with her I would love to ask her about her voice in a technical sense. Great article. Thanks.
