Re: Barbra Thanks UK Fans For #1 Album

I think this was the right time for the right album. There's a big audience of younger listeners hungry for something new and fresh and, ironically, the something new and fresh which is capturing their interest is classic popular song. Hearing real stories being told, hearing intriguing and meaningful lyrics and hearing soaring melodies is gaining their ear. And who better to interpret this music than an artist who herself has been an integral part of the art? And who, somehow, someway, has kept fresh through the decades, who has kept evolving and who still can surprise us even though you'd think logically we'd all know all there is to know about her musically. In my view, Barbra achieved this latest success just by being herself, an artist who believes in art as living and ever moving on even if it's looking back. No tricks, no poses, no mysterious motives, just honest love for what she is creating.

Thank you for being.

I remember, it was 1988. I was 15 back then. Just graduated from my primary school, having 2 months' school break before my highschool started. I was spending this time with my grandparents in southern Poland. One morning I was listening to the radio (and back then we had only 2 channels) and I heard this song. I thought "That's nice. Who is this woman?" And I only remembered that it was "Barbara". Barbara...something. A few days later I went to a bookshop. And they had this tiny section of CDs. Only a few people could afford CDs in Poland back then. They were very new and very expensive. I only wanted to flick through these CDs and suddenly I found this album...with the correct name: "Barbra Streisand Greatest Hits vol 2". I was a teenager, I did not have much money, only what my mum and nan gave me. And I spent it all! Every single "penny" and bought this CD. It was like spending 50, or 60 Pounds on a CD. But I got it. Still, did not have a CD player, but eventually got it a few months later. And I played my first ever CD. And the song, the first song from this album was the very first song I heard back in July. It was "Evergreen". This is how my romance with Barbra started. And is so much alive today. It was a dream come true to see Barbra in London. The last date, announced suddenly. I couldn't let it go. Thank you for that experience. Then "Yentl" rereleased and all the thoughts... why wasn't it filmed in Poland? Why Czechoslovakia, why UK, why not Poland? Why didn't she go back to these places like Janow, Lublin (I was born in Lublin) all these years after "Yentl" was filmed. So many thoughts and so many great memories. Thank you for all of them, Barbra. And thank you for every album you release.

New album

I became a fan after 'The prince of Tides', my favourite film of all time! I would like to call it a man's romantic film as it shows the weakness and strenth of a good man who ultimateley makes the right decision for his family despite loosing real love. At 40 years old I don't remember much of Barbra's younger years but have been hooked on her music ever since. Barbra is one of them women who has the natural warm beauty of voice, looks and personality. Needs more media coverage in the UK. Absolute legend, wish I was Nick Nolte in the film!

I have all of your albans and I eagerly awaited this last one. I even purchased it for my friend I was so dissapointed with it. It was all the same in fact it was boring. Not like Barbra at all. In future I will wait and see before I buy. What a let down. Susan London

Well said Wayne, I totally

Well said Wayne, I totally agree with ever word you say, the kids of today are not as daft as everyone thinks, I have 3 grown up sons (25-23 & 21) they have grown up listening to Barbra ,my fault lol but when their mates come to the house to play computer games or what ever ,you'll always find them looking through my Barbra collection for some back ground music, I'm always amazed by this and when I ask them why Barbra's music? the reply is always the same "she's cool man" lol can't keep up with them, but gives me great pride to know that I'm cool too acording to them that is, because I have to many Barbra Streisand albums.
Give the kids of today a little more respect because they know how to respect a great singer and her music that why Barbra became No'1 in the UK the kids love her, but not as much as me lol.
