'Love Is The Answer', Barbra's 63rd album, has climbed to position 1 on the UK album charts, in it's second week.

Here's a note from Barbra...

When the album went to #1 in the States I was surprised and thrilled. To have the same thing happen on "the other side of the pond" is just as exciting.

I've always loved spending time in the UK and it's so gratifying to learn how this album has been embraced. With all my appreciation and thanks! Barbra

LOS ANGELES — Want to lounge in a wicker chair from Barbra Streisand's sunroom? Perhaps wear one of her designer dresses or tinkle the keys of her baby grand piano?

Your chance is coming in October, when Streisand will auction more than 400 personal items to benefit her charity.

"What good does it do in storage," the 67-year-old entertainer said. "Let someone else enjoy it. These things, they're not forever. We pass them on and reap the benefits for something important."Read more »

There has been a lot of conversation lately about how the ability to identify with another person's circumstance makes one unqualified to wear the judicial robe. Since President Obama's nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, the word empathy has taken a beating. The other day, Dick Cheney came out in support of gay marriage, stating "freedom means freedom for everyone"aI guess Cheney finally allowed himself to share the empathy he felt for his daughter with the rest of the country. But why should it be acceptable to only show empathy to those we are closest to?Read more »

There’s a famous Norman Rockwell painting titled “Freedom of Speech,” depicting an idealized American town meeting. The painting, part of a series illustrating F.D.R.’s “Four Freedoms,” shows an ordinary citizen expressing an unpopular opinion. His neighbors obviously don’t like what he’s saying, but they’re letting him speak his mind.Read more »

While the Baker-Hamilton report from the Iraq Study Group dominates the news in recent weeks with its rebuke of the colossal mess the United States has made in Iraq, there is another report released at the end of October -- even more vital in its import -- that has gone virtually unnoticed

Among the many issues voters need to consider in this campaign is this vital fact: The next president is likely to appoint several Supreme Court justices. Those choices will determine the future of the law, and of some of Americans' most cherished rights.

Rush Limbaugh is plugging a new book whose conservative agenda attacks liberals. But the facts the book alleges about Barbra Streisand, as reported in the WorldNetDaily website, just aren't factual. The website, celebrating Limbaugh's breathless praising of the book, says, "It points out how Barbra Streisand, while lamenting the way labor unions are treated in this country, gets all of her movies produced in Canada."Read more »

Just for the record...the claims and statements attributed to me in Jon Peters' book proposal are either completely distorted or simply untrue.

Last weekend, I was in Washington DC to accept the Kennedy Center Honors, and I noticed that the kiss between me and the "soon to be former" President Bush created quite a stir. The Today Show even proclaimed that it was a sign of the apocalypse. The timing is ironic. After eight years of President Clinton and on the cusp of at least four years of President Obama, I get selected to receive this prestigious awardaduring the Bush Administration. I have never met George W.Read more »

Americans can't take anything for granted on Tues November 4th. In the 2000 and 2004 elections, voter fraud, voter suppression and voter intimidation were rampant, especially in the critical swing states Florida and Ohio. This year, we are likely to break voter turnout records. Hundreds of thousands of voters have lined up to vote early around the country, and we have already heard numerous accounts of electronic voting machine glitches, registration and ballot issues and long lines.Read more »

Sarah Palin became Mayor of Wasilla by a margin 203 votes! She won 616 out of a total 1,029 votes cast. That's like running for student body president of a high school.

Until the Republican Convention, very few had ever heard of Sarah Palinaand now this mean-spirited campaigner is asking who is Barack Obama???

I'm asking who is Sarah Palin???

The Republicans fight dirtyathey take every opportunity to shift the political conversation from substance to frivolity. They don't want the public to see the huge differences between the two parties. Less than two weeks ago, John McCain mocked Senator Obama's appearance at a Hollywood fundraiser.

And where do you think John McCain was supposed to be tonight? On Monday it was announced that he himself was coming to Hollywood for a fundraiser charging up to $40,800 a plate. The hypocrisy... Read more »

How else can we pay for our country's enormous budgetary needs? Read more »

The media has labeled John McCain a "moderate maverick" and a reformer. That moniker could not be more misrepresentative of the core values of the current Republican candidate running for President. The real John McCain has a history of voting against women, veterans, education and the preservation of our civil liberties, in addition to abstaining completely from voting to safeguard our environment in 2007.Read more »
