As i see my essay, i personally don't like the word "fan". What I really mean is that she is someone who has given me a haven as a child and now, through her articulation of feelings in her acting, singing, directing, activism, phhilanthropy, etc. When I saw at her Barclay back to Brooklyn, concert, I found myself studying her, watching singlemindedly so yes, I might be called a "Fan" of Barbra Streisand, but I am aware that she is a woman who lives her life and has chosen for her own reasons... to share her deepest feelings through music, movies, writing and directing, and has also chosen to speak out for what she believes, in these genres, and directly by her speaking out and philanthropy.
I have found that one of her essential abilities, all that I have mentioned... is her articulation in music, acting, writing speaking. To me she has a special articulation in that shines through her works.
..
I am a fan since I am 12 years old and am now 60. I am just short 4 days of being ten years younger than Ms. Streisand.
I am a fan, because of Ms Streisand's, beautiful artistry.. singing, acting, directing, producing writing. i am a fan because of her great causes and follow through on supporting these causes all of which I believe in too. i am a fan, because she is an activist and I share the same worldview as she does.
i am a fan because all through my life, the familiarity and beauty and her soothing and expressive voice has given me a place to go, that is very personal and a haven for my soul now and when I was a very shy child,, who loved to sing and loved music.I saw her in the original cast of Funny Girl (just a few weeks after it opened on broadway) and when she entered the movies, I identified with her as a woman and a Jew, and the emotions she expressed in her acting, too. I saw myself in her,.... and was totally taken by her presence. Also the movies she has chosen to direct and and written, produced, etc. have dealt with issues I sincerely relate to.
I still have a place to go, listening to her sing, which is very personal and calms my soul...I see her films again and again and look forward to new ones, because I can get so focused and involved and and identify and leave behind my personal struggles and still identify.
And she fights for the things I believe in. I have the same worldview she does.
Her work has soothed, inspired and given me joy. Her work in the world has inspired me. Her honesty and privacy I admire.
All I can say I know you are a real person, with your own life and thanks for sharing you feelings and beliefs through music, acting, directing, producing, etc. and your activism.
Many many thanks, Ms. Streisand-Brolin.
