A personal message from Barbra:

In addition to being an artist, I’m a passionate advocate for gender equality. Years ago, I learned that more women die from heart disease each year than men due to stunning gender inequality in the research and treatment of women with heart disease. Because of this, I co-founded a non-profit organization, the Women’s Heart Alliance, in partnership with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Our work focuses on improving diagnosis and treatment of women with heart disease and … Read more »

Now, 46 years later, she’s coming back. Ms. Streisand has agreed to appear as a presenter at this year’s Tonys.

The National Institutes of Health is the envy of the world — but Congress has the opportunity to make it even better. Sex is a biological variable that matters in numerous diseases, including lung cancer, Alzheimer’s and heart disease. Now is the time for us to go the final mile on equitable representation in medical research.

Women’s bodies are different than men’s, which can result in health differences. Yet for too long, women … Read more »

Our Republic is based on a system of checks and balances. To the chagrin of political parties and to the benefit of all, we escape autocracy through our Constitution and its prescribed democratic process.

So why won’t the Republican Senators do their job as enshrined in the Constitution, and fill the seat on the Supreme Court? Six justices in the 20th Century were confirmed in the last year of a president’s

Why is it that today even a woman as impressive as Hillary Clinton is judged not by her merits and extensive resume alone, but held to a pernicious double standard?

It is strange to watch the Republican Presidential debates or hear the candidates describe our country. While there is hype in political rhetoric, now there are outright falsehoods being peddled as facts.

To the Republicans, the U.S. is an economic basket case. Nothing could be further from the truth. These are the actual facts.

The U.S. has had the best job growth in the industrialized world and the unemployment rate is down to 5.1 percent — the … Read more »

Why Science Needs Female Mice (editorial, July 19) is a slam-dunk, drawing much-needed attention to the lack of female subjects in disease research.

Do you remember what happened when the Berlin Wall fell? Until that moment, nobody realized just how decadent Communism had become. It had tanks, guns, and nukes, but nobody really believed in its ideology anymore; its officials and enforcers were mere careerists, who folded at the first shock.
