Funny...my 1st 5 years were sepnt in Sheepshead Bay (AveX).....subsequently moved to Far Rockaway (Queens)...every Sunday we have 3 Uncles that travelled from NYC to Far Rockaway...in which they brought 3 cakes...one being the "infamous" Black Out Cake!!
Even better than that...while living in Brooklyn....my dad, brother & I used to walk on Nostrand Ave...there was a bakery (whose name I know not) and we used to purchase "Charlotte Rousse"....it was served in a round cardboard container...there was sponge cake (?) on the bottom topped with real whipped cream and a strawberry on top!!
Haven't seen them since!

How well I remember those Charlotte Rousse! I would push the cake up through the cardboard until the delicious cake was completely eaten.
Do you remember the Garfield Cafeteria? They had the best red jello in the world.
I can still see that wonderful blue mosaic on the staircase leading to the second floor, hear the rattling of the plates, and feel the warmth of the sunlight as it streamed through the large front windows.
I am trying to remember Barbra and Rosie's 'Ebinger's conversation'. I believe Rosie and Barbra discussed Ebinger's, but Barbra indicated that her favorite was not the Blackout cake, but something with Mocha...
