I was very saddened to hear of Allison Waldman's passing Monday. She had been struggling bravely for many years to beat cancer.
I knew Allison over the years as a very good writer and a kind and loyal fan of mine who created and wrote "The Barbra Files" magazine and "The Barbra Streisand Scrapbook"... she was always wonderful to me. She was dedicated to the accuracy of the news she conveyed, and she shaped her stories with great style.Read more »

Later we worked together on the film “A Star Is Born” where Phil was able to record me singing live, including “Evergreen”. In the next decade we worked on the soundtrack to “Yentl” and many other recordings. Read more »

In a new book, End This Depression Now!, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman says the current economic problems can be fixed both more easily and more quickly than anyone imagines. But politicians' desire to slash spending is deeply destructive, and he details why austerity is so appealing even to Very Serious People - and why it's such a bad idea.Read more »

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill banning abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving money through the state, her office said in a statement.
The Republican-backed Whole Woman's Health Funding Priority Act cuts off funding for family planning and health services delivered by Planned Parenthood clinics and other organizations offering abortions.
"By signing this measure into law I stand with the majority of Americans who oppose the use of taxpayer funds for abortion," Brewer said in a statement.Read more »

Senate Republicans on Monday blocked a move to open debate on the so-called Buffett Rule, ensuring that a measure pressed for months by President Obama and Senate Democrats to ensure that the superrich pay a tax rate of at least 30 percent will not come to a decisive vote.
But the fierce debate preceding the 51-45 vote - the Democrats were nine votes short of the 60 they needed - set off a week of political wrangling over taxes that both parties insist they are already winning.Read more »

Until the Republican Convention, very few had ever heard of Sarah Palinaand now this mean-spirited campaigner is asking who is Barack Obama???
I'm asking who is Sarah Palin???
The Republicans fight dirtyathey take every opportunity to shift the political conversation from substance to frivolity. They don't want the public to see the huge differences between the two parties. Less than two weeks ago, John McCain mocked Senator Obama's appearance at a Hollywood fundraiser.
And where do you think John McCain was supposed to be tonight? On Monday it was announced that he himself was coming to Hollywood for a fundraiser charging up to $40,800 a plate. The hypocrisy... Read more »

The McCain machine has attacked Barack Obama again using the tired Republican myth of the "tax and spend liberal." BARACK OBAMA IS GOING TO GIVE 3 TIMES THE TAX CUTS AS JOHN MCCAIN TO 95% OF THE PEOPLE!!!... only the wealthiest Americans will pay a little more. How else can we pay for our country's enormous budgetary needs? Read more »

The media has labeled John McCain a "moderate maverick" and a reformer. That moniker could not be more misrepresentative of the core values of the current Republican candidate running for President. The real John McCain has a history of voting against women, veterans, education and the preservation of our civil liberties, in addition to abstaining completely from voting to safeguard our environment in 2007.Read more »
