As I sat, mesmerized with tears in my eyes, watching you sing live on Oprah's show today, I wondered why I always cry when I see you sing. I spent a lot of time thinking about it, and thought I knew, but, the New York Times article put it in words: She "sings as if she is speaking to you." There are so VERY few performers who offer that quality. I was fortunate to see Sammy Davis, Jr once. He was one of the only artists I have seen live who I felt was performing "just" for me! Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to see you in person (although I tried to win the Cutest Pet contest), and doubt that I ever will. But, through the years of your career, you have produced music and films that spoke to me. It doesn't make one difference to me that there is a change in your voice, or that a piece is or is not "perfect", or the production accompanying it, or even that you "forgot the words". Music is a language! There are so very few people who are able to interpret that language. Barbra Streisand can and does!! Ms Streisand, thank you so much for "speaking to" me! In a velvet, interpretive voice that will never, ever be duplicated!
