What a disappointment is this new album.
Normally I look so forward to Streisands work but in this case I feel let down.
The songs are depressing and like dirges.
The musicians / producer are going in one direction and she is going in another.
It seems to me that Barbra is trying to keep us in the past. These songs, similar to those she sang in the 60's sound like a different performer as her voice has changed. She sounds as if she is singing without any effort and I think that this may be a sign of laziness - where is the 'tour de force' we know so well?
Barbra is 67 years old - not 87 - she has acccess to the best song writers in the business and it is time we heard something different, new and edgy.
I think that she and her people know that her fans, like myself will turn out to see her open an envelope and pay through the nose for it. In the past I have been very happy to do this but am feeling some frustration with Barbra's current attitude.
Just because she deigns to turn up for a one hour show with Jonathan Ross we are expected to be so glad that she came out of America.
Coldplay, Take That and other contemprary performers are 'knocking their pans in' for their fans and producing fantastic shows.
Barbra's reluctance to stretch herself really shows in this album and I don't think that we deserve this type of work from her - dated and not realistic considering the state of the world today.
Sorry Barbra but I know how much you appreciate honesty.
Just because this album is a dud doesn't take one note away from all of your past work that I feel is exceptional.
Where is the 'greatest star?'
' Make someone happy' - not me this time Barbra.
