I read Maureen Dowd's column this morning and cheered her on. Maureen Dowd is one of the most intelligent proponents of progressive legislation in the country. Her writing is like the liberal counter point to William Buckley's Conservative column.

If I were Barack Obama I would read her column and send her a box of chocolates and a thank you note. He needs to be what Johnson was when the civil rights act and Medicare was passed.

You cannot depend upon great oratory to get legislation passed. It must be followed by
strong political force and a backbone of steel. President Obama is playing the
conciliatory game with sharks and alligators who want to devour him and his
presidency. They would like nothing better than to make him into another Jimmy Carter and return to power.

Barack Obama was behind the curve when he allowed the smear campaign of the Summer define the debate. The talking headaches of Fox News, Sarah Palin, and the well organized and ignorant people who went to town hall meetings to block free speech by
drowning out the rational people are showing hatred to Obama. They were not there to discuss anything. They were there to destroy the health care bill.

When Glenn Beck called him a racist who had trouble with white people, he should have
had his Administration call him out on this crazy charge. Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh are all college dropouts. To let these morons frame the debate
and give rise to racism against the first black President is crazy. How come nobody
asked for Glenn Beck to resign his seat on Fox? Dan Rather was forced out by a
misunderstanding, not an overt racist remark that is resonating with people who are using other contexts to promote their hatred of Obama.

Since when is it acceptable to keep your kids home from school to "protect" them from the President? School superintendents decided to cave in to this pressure and
read the speech before accepting it for use at a later date. Ignorant parents and
administrators don't see how that relates to our standing in the world as such poor
competitor in so many subjects. Kids don't learn to reason, discuss, and debate
anything. They just tune out. The President made a very good pep talk to the kids and all of them need it every year to remind them what an education means.

The President was silent on this. He should have allowed his Education Secretary
to speak out on this travesty. He should have named names of educators who
were disgraceful. And he should have praised the courageous educators that didn't
cave in
Where were the United Federation of Teachers and NEA? Why didn't the union heads
decry this idiocy?

I urge President Obama to get out there and rally the troops to fight for health care
and save his presidency. If we don't get this done.....we might just suffer with Sarah Palin and her trash talk as our President.
