Ciao!
My name is Pere, I am 45 and I´m from Barcelona, Spain.
I´m so happy to read a mail linking Barbra & Mina. They are my two favourite singers. Here in Spain Mina was VERY popular back in the 60´s and 70´s. In these recent years it has been difficult to get her albums here in Spain as they are not usually released in the Spanish Market. I´ve got more than 70 cds of her!.
A duet with Barbra would be wonderful, but I think it will never happen, mainly because Mina is not widely known in America. But...who cares?, we are lucky to enjoy their music separately. A few days ago I received Mina´s last Cd "Facile" (again not released in Spain...) and I really like it, as much I love the fabulous "Love is the answer" by Barbra. We´ve got divided hearts. But we are happy!!!
Thanks for reading,
Pere
Hi guys
I agree, I have a CD from Mina and she does remind me of Barbra in the 60s, not the voice, more the looks. But Barbra is unique and unimitable. I think that it would be interesting if Barbra would do a record singing a selection of very popular songs from Italy, France, etc. with some fantastic orchestration, She would be excellent at it and it would fit her style.
Well, as an italian I must say that Mina copied Barbra from the '60 on: she copied her haircut, her moves her dresses: it is so obvious when you see clips of Mina from that period: Mina has a great voice but she never reached the deep inspirational mood that barbra always gave us.
I remember in a magazine from the early '70s, Barbra was asked by an italian journalist is she ever heard about Mina and she answered "Mina? is it an island in front of Naples?" that made me laugh a lot.
As for what is written in the previous message, WOW wouldn't it be great if Barbra would consider an album with italian and french songs; would not be a very great commercial succes in the USA, but for sure a great quality album.
best to everybody
Folks, I know I'm not the moderator but this particular area of the community is for discussion of LOVE IS THE ANSWER. These threads should be elsewhere on the site. Moderator? There are several threads like this in this area. Is it possible to move them to the right location? Some great topics of conversation, though. I wasn't previously aware of Mina Mazzini.
sorry if I insist, but a fan who write BARBARA instead of BARBRA, well for me is not very polite....................I mean everybody in the world knows about the famous "a" remouval!
I can't believe it... BARBARA!?!?
From Italy
Patroch, with all due respect, I must say that Mina has never copied Barbra Streisand or anyone else. Mina is UNIQUE. And I think she is better than Barbra (although this is only my opinion), but in any case she is more versatile as a singer. As for the anecdote about Barbra´s answer when asked about Mina, I don´t know if it´s true (magazines lie a lot, you know), but I´m fully aware that now Barbra is a great admirer of Mina´s and has congratulated her on her recent 70th birthday. Liza Minnelli and Quincy Jones have done so too. Jennifer Lopez, another fan, is recording one of Mina´s songs, "Carne Viva", on her next album, and the late Michael Jackson was also a great fan of "The Tigress". Other fans of Mina include Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Aretha Franklin. I think they knew something about this business, didn´t they? (I admire Barbra too, but Mina is my secret love.)
MINA, SEI GRANDE, GRANDE, GRANDE.
Her main hits, and songs she had written...
Ma plus belle histoire d'amour
L'aigle noir
Une petite cantate etc.
